Texas/ OU Illusions?

Firstly, I’m glad we have Texas and OU in the conference. Two Blue Bloods with huge passionate fanbases who were wasting away in the Big 12.
Texas illusion? They would waltz into the conference and smash the competition.
OU illusion? That Venerables is the right Coach.
Conclusion: Both will have new Coaches within 3 years or less and rebuilding will start. Many years for both before they win an SEC Title.

Texas went to the SEC championship game in our 1st year as a member. Which part of that is an illusion.
FIRST Year.

My prediction: Many of these "blue bloods" are going to get blue balls, since they won't be claiming as many titles in today's landscape.

You must be talking to OU. Texas never claims titles. We just win a lot of games and then somehow come up empty handed.

This was discussed on the OU boards prior to OU joining the conference.
I think the consensus was that if OU won two SEC championships a decade that would be the best we could expect.
But with a 12+ team playoff... that has changed things. SEC championships aren't going to be required to get there. .

We thought we would be competitve, and we were in our first year in the conference. Absolutely no one said we would smash the competition in the SEC. That never happened.

Now this is correct.

Why not? They had averaged 6 wins per season in the big 12 over the previous decade

I appreciate the take. I can't speak for OU but I promise you no true and educated Texas fan thought we would walk in and smash the competition in the SEC, especially after our decade plus of average to below average program. What we did think is last year we had the right team to compete for an SEC title (correct) and natty (correct). Thats the short term and Texas fans were correct to project confidence in the previous statements.
Now that team has moved to the NFL we are seeing (what most of us knew deep down) that if you are not loaded with veteran talent any SEC can get you any given week as the talent levels are great in the SEC and certainly better than the Big 12, which we already knew.

the Blue bloods IF (and thats a big IF) they keep pouring their money and resources to NIL will always be around and will compete.
However, its much more difficult in todays era with portal, NIL, etc. and if you dont have all running together (right coaching staff, right portal players, injury luck, veteran players, etc) its going to be hard for any coach (even UGA, Bama, etc) to win consistently. And by that I mean go to and win the SEC title and be the last 4 in a playoff.

But I bet you're convinced you have the right coach even though you have the same record as "Venerables" and your team got ran out of Norman on a rail last year amirite?

Are you referring to conference only games or win totals? Either way I think both are incorrect. Conference wins was 5.1 and total wins was 7.3, both suck.
For comparison during the same timeframe ATM averaged 3.8 conference wins and 7 total wins so we both were average but sucked based on expectations.

quite the fantasy but not accurate. Outside of the typical douchebags here, who may or may not be an alter, we were just hoping to be competitive. None of us really knew what to expect until it kicked off.
I do agree that sark will be gone in 3 years, however.
I'm open to being wrong if you want to post examples from regulars here and not the known trolls.

That TX team last year had all the right parts in place; experience and a little talent will get you far in any conference. They came in a perfect window to really shine. I think many bandwagon fans thought the “SEC Grind” wasn’t actually as hard as we make it out to be. OU learned that that the hard way in Yr 1. A really good conference isn’t one where you have powerhouses who only compete against each other, it’s when ALL teams CAN be good enough to challenge each other and the other powerhouses of other conferences. Most years pre NIL, even out lower teams could be on par with the “high tier” teams of other conferences.

Well OU has the best defense in the SEC by a large margin all created by Venables. I love watching the defense

they won't be claiming as many titles
Of 7 National Championships and 44 conference championships Oklahoma was either voted No. 1 by the appropriate people or won by the Sooners, none of them are CLAIMED.
OU doesn't claim ANY championships.

Very effective cheaters … histrionically speaking.
