How about this one?
So the worst ever in season performance by a preseason #1 team was the 2012 USC Trojans. They finished the season 7-6 the signature regular season loss was to the Wildcats and RichRod who went on to be New Mexico bowl champions. They would close out the season with a Sun Bowl loss to Paul Johnson's triple option Ramblin' Wreck
Who were they coached by?
Lane Kiffin
Who was his defensive coordinator?
Ed Orgeron
Who replaced Lane after the 2013 season?
Steve Sarkisian
If Soyjak isn't careful he may bump his boy off the sticks and take the title of worst ever performance by an AP preseason #1 team.

The Sun Bowl is perfectly fine but it's a pretty bad look to lose it after having been preseason #1 and ranked most of the year.
Soyjak actually exited the polls far faster than Lane did.
