auburn is a bottom 1/3 SEC team. Accept it. Losses should be viewed as normal.

Gus was pretty good at Aubie when you compare to Harsin and Hugh. Was also 3-5 against Bama:

2013: 12-2
2014: 8-5
2015: 7-6
2016: 8-5
2017: 10-4
2018: 8-5
2019: 9-4
2020: 6-4

Auburn can't afford to fire him. They're still paying Shug Jordan.

This is why LSU needs to tread carefully with how they handle Brian Kelly.

John Casey,

LSU is in a recruiting hot bed. Yall did fine with orgeron pretty sure there are others that can replace Kelly.

True. And had Gus been able to show growth he would’ve been retained.
Gus did a good job recruiting skill positions…. but a shitty job recruiting LoS.

Many of the challenges that Auburn is currently facing started under Gus’s leadership. It isn’t his fault they haven’t been properly addressed since his departure… but make no mistake, Gus and Harsin left the cupboard completely bare when they departed.

I like Gus …. but he earned every bit of his firing.

It was the 2020 season and played 11 SEC games.

Losing to UGA 27-6. And Bama 42-13.

If Gus would have just recruited what worked for him, he would have done better. (offensive line and mobile QBs) Texas taking Herb Hand away I think hurt Malzahn the most. They are back together now at FSU.

But I do miss Gus sometimes. He gave Auburn some fun seasons.

Keep Hugh as the culture guy and recruiter and bring Gus in to call plays. Problem solved!

2010 and 2013 gave Auburn the false impression that they were an elite program with the same expectations as Alabama, Georgia, and LSU.

The reality is that those kinds of seasons are usually outliers, typically brought about thanks to generational talent finding their way there (like the un in the 80s behind Bo Jackson).

Also doesn't hurt they get their national TV game every year against Bama at the end of the season with little too lose. If they didn't have that, they would be completely forgotten by the end of most seasons.

Money recruits. The days of having “recruiting coaches” is over. Why is this hard for people to understand?

Yallawood upped the ante this year. That’s why the recruiting was up.

Correct me if wrong, but in 2020, each team played 10 SEC games and that was the complete regular season. So Auburn was 6-4 in the SEC.

Wow - blaming Gus for Auburn’s current futility.

Coaches like Freeze, Malzhan, Harsin, don’t develop top talent, and therefore they don’t attract top talent. Once their little play-fast HUNH scheme has been countered, they don’t have any other cards to play. Coaches that actually know the game of football and can adjust tend to do far better over time.

You are full of it. You disregarded 2004, 1993, 1994 and 3 straight SEC titles in the eighties. We have strayed badly from the norm for the past 10 years or so.

And that is important to you why? Don't you need to spend more time, money and effort on getting Bubba Throckmorton QB from Pea Vine, AL to enroll at UAT. I feel sure you just searched for Bubba on some recruiting service. Bama is as bama does.
