Topic is done to death but arent they supposed to have this crap decided before the season?

They tied it in with the playoff crap and the Big Ten is making a fuss. I guess im just asking if your mods/insiders have heard how this is going to go?

I bet Sankey is going to reiterate what he has said already:

ESPN is going to have to pay the conference more money if half of the SEC will be trading a FCS/G5 game for a conference loss.

We have media days coming up next week, I'm sure that'll be a hot topic.

The Big-10 started talking about this since they started playing 9 conference games in 2016.

I think it was 2011 when the Big-12 went to a 9-game conference schedule and they started getting chippy about it, too.

The PAC-12 went to a 9-game conference schedule back in 2006 when they were still the PAC-10.

So, since they went to 9-conference games:

The PAC-10/12 has won 0 football championships and the SEC has won 10.

The Big-12 has won 0 football championships and the SEC has won 8.

The Big-10 has won 2 football championships and the SEC has won 5.

Can the SEC sell broadcasting rights for the extra games to another channel if espn doesn’t want to pay?

I think everyone is in favor of 9 games. I really don't care to see all of the cupcake games. I would actually prefer 10 games instead, otherwise, there will be rotating years when you get 4 home and 5 away and the next year you get 5 home and 4 away. With 10 conference games, everyone will get 5 at home and 5 away.

The problem is that all of the other conferences play shitty teams most weeks.

Let's look at Ohio State's schedule:

Texas (big game)
Grambling (shitty game)
Ohio (shitty game)
Washington (meh)
Minnesota (shitty game)
Illinois (Usually a shitty game)
Wisconsin (meh)
Penn State (big game)
Purdue (shitty game)
UCLA (shitty game)
Rutgers (shitty game)
Michigan (big game)

So with their 9 conference games plus Texas, Ohio State only has 3-4 big games.

I don't think so under the current TV deal.

This is why as convenient as it is to know where all the games are going to be (ABC, ESPN, or SECN), the way the B1G sold their TV rights was better for the conference members.

The conference could have been divided into two blocks (just for TV rights, not divisions) and each block bid on by everyone who wanted a shot. Then bid out the SECCG. That's basically the NFL model with the AFC/NFC then playoffs.

SEC basketball, baseball, and the other sports still generate enough viewers to justify SECN and SEC+.

1: we should play 9, 1 P4 and 2 cupcakes

2: we should get compensated for the extra game

The SEC currently has the lowest percentage of teams playing 10 or more P4 games out of the power conferences. Programs, like LSU and UGA, unfairly carry the load while the Vols and Ole Miss go play the sisters of the poor and want to be treated like a elite program

Go to 10 games and eliminate the conference championship game.

A 9-game conference schedule would separate the men from the boys. This is a no-brainer for the league.

Oklahoma plays your two toughest opponents excluding Penn State but OU plays Bama, LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Auburn and Tennessee the Big-10 is garbage.

I honestly don’t know if they’re waiting on expansion, the new media deal, or both.

This, obviously, brings up scheduling & rotations.

Heck, most years they don’t play a ranked team until November

10 games is troublesome:

pro - balanced H/A
con - depending on expansion, what happens to UGA/Fl./Kent./SC with in-state rivalries (10 SEC, OOC in-state rival, leaving 1 slot for anybody)?

This. Conference championships are meaningless now.

Are you going to stick with Texas A&M to go 8-4 this coming season? You might want to think about that.

Adding an extra conference game without more $ from ESPN means some of the borderline teams don't make a bowl game at all and the conference loses out on that revenue. It could also mean in some years that the top team(s) in the league lose key players to injury and the conference loses out that way. People on this forum don't think like businessmen, but the conference office does. They want $ in return for added risk.

Holding out for more money, frankly with the difficulty of scheduling ooc it will be easier and keeps more money in the conference.

I'm against 9 games. If you are tired of watching your team play four cupcakes, then take that up with your athletic department. Some teams like UGA, LSU, Alabama, Texas, and maybe some others, actually work hard to put some quality OOC games in those spots.
