Another Winds of Winter dick tease

He was named the Master of Ceremonies at Worldcon, a science fiction convention which takes place annually in countries all over the world.
This year an airline even offered Martin free air-fare to their country so he could finish The Winds of Winter in peace.
However, in a blog post, Martin replied to this, saying: “If I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon 2020, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.

This will bring some hope to fans about it, as will a comment from an expert on the book, who has some sources close to Martin.
Asked by a fan whether the book will be available this year, Twitter user BryndenBFish said: “My latest thought on TWOW is yes.
“My latest thought about the release date is also yes. Yes.”

Asked whether the book will meet its deadline of Worldcon, the expert replied: “No. The final stage of editing is when he submits his final manuscript to his editors.

I know Martin no longer needs the money, but he has seriously probably cost himself millions in book sales by literally delaying himself out of his own market due to lazyness.

Show ruined my interest in the books frankly.

I’ll buy and read it the day it comes out no matter how long his arse takes to do it

I will too out of a feeling of obligation, but I have lost all enthusiasm for it. I'm also pretty convinced that it is all moot anyway because it's never going to be published.

I can't understand why he refuses to just hire a ghostwriter and oversee the book like a producer on a movie.

It’s his the hit on legacy that will take the most damage. He’s old with money. More money won’t improve his life that much. He had a potential groundbreaking masterpiece. Now, it’s a bad joke. That’s how it will be remembered.

Can't wait. Was a Ice and Fire fan before the HBO show and will always be one.

It’s really sad because I can see Dany burning down King’s Landing really working in the books, but no way basically anything before that happens from Seasons 7-8 save for Jon fricking Dany.

Makes me mad thinking about it. The decision to make 7/8 shortened seasons is just wild.

Same reason he literally wrote into his estate that should he die, no one can write for the IP (in other words, no one can finish it. It dies with him).
Ego.

This famous, lazy author sold his half-finished fantasy story to two chodes because he had no ability to successfully finish the story.
Nailed it!
After the last season I don't think I can get the shitsandwich taste out of my mouth long enough to even care anymore.
Had Martin finished the series I'm certain that the Chode Brothers would have been able to pull off a good final season.

Who has a better story than Bran.....

Same.
I will also have to read the synopsis of the prior books on Tower of the Hand or somewhere to remind myself the differences between the books and the show. I have read to many books since the last one of his.

He can't really do that with his writing style. If he was more of an outliner, as opposed to a discovery writer, this would work well. But he doesn't really have much to give to a ghostwriter to work with as a framework.
I absolutely loved the first 2, the next few were little bit hit and miss for me - I think i really liked one of them a lot (its been so long since I've read them its hard to remember).
Personally I think he got a little bit over-hyped when you compare it to a lot of the other really great fantasy series that is out there. The last couple books while good, I didn't find exceptional so I'm done with the series unless / until he puts out the final book. At that point I'll go back and do a full read through unless I hear that he just follows what happened in the show or something.

Game of Thrones is the best written book in the series. Absolutely beautiful writing in that one but it ranks 3rd for me. Storm of Swords (book3) was the best with Clash of Kings (book 2) not far behind it. A Feast for Crows had its issues but I enjoyed it, especially on the reread as it’s full of fun Easter eggs. A Dance with Dragons was a fricking mess from the beginning to the end

That sounds about right for what I was thinking. About 10 years ago, i was still pretty confident that with a couple strong closing books, it could live up to some of the hype and be one of the best larger series 5+ books - I just don't have any confidence that these final books will do that any more.

so, if he gets WoW published, how many years will it take for A Dream of Spring? He's 72,right?

Beyond that, who knows if he can even finish the series with dream of spring. He barely moved the plot in the last two books.
