Heard Gus say this in the post game last night while driving home. Look for more ineffective Wildcat in the red zone against good team gentlemen. Gus has not learned about passing in the red zone. Scary to hear him say this. Kerryon running in 5 tds will only reinforce his dated belief.

With how heavy we are, I would like to see some ace formations.

Yes what a crazy thing to say. What's a coach thinking trying to run the ball in the red zone

your confirmation bias aside, he’s right. You do have to be able to run in the red zone to be an effective team.

As the field shrinks and the defensive backfield gets more crowded... you have to be able to run the ball effectively.

Yup and it would be nice to see some toss sweeps or QB keepers down there off the read option.

No, we need more formations. Hell, I would love to see the Wishbone down there. Why the hell not?

This is the exact line of thinking which earned him the name Fieldgoal Gus.

One also need a to have an effective short passing game for the redzone because the defensive backfield shrinking means safties are now closer to the Los and in the box for the run game.

I agree you need to be able to run the ball, but I hate the wildcat. You also need to be able to pass.

Annual bump. We still refuse to pass the ball in the red zone.

I mean.... I agree and all, but wasn’t 1 of our 2 red zone TDs a pass?

Our first TD was a pass in the redzone

Gus is right whether you like it or not. You have to be able to run the ball. You can’t only run the ball, but if you don’t have some type of ground game down there you end up looking like OM did under Freeze.

We have had red zone issues under Gus for 4 years now, yet he refuses to adapt his belief even when it results in mostly field goal attempts. I

Yes we had a pass td in the red zone, then we went away from it.

. . . a Chip shot.

(and how we know Gus's not calling everything)

In theory, running the ball is exactly what the doctor ordered; however, our line is garbage, and we need to figure out how to pass into the end zone. Having the QB and receivers that we do, I wholeheartedly believe we’d do well.
