You dont make people into stars. You either are or you are not

Plenty of the guys people complained about got opportunities. The real stars take advantage of those opportunities.

By the way, Roc Thomas just got suspended from the NFL for 3 months for substance abuse. He is an individual that will probably never take advantage of his opportunities.

Deshaun s Davis’s interview where he spoke about Gatewood, spring practice player interviews, and the spring game have really attached some credibility to the hopeful hype that I’ve had for so long.

I’m optimistic. I would probably be confident if I saw more throws from him. Not concerned at all about his running ability and physicality. Last minute of a blow out bowl game or not - those little Big10 kids absolutely wanted no part of legitimately tackling him.

It’s unfortunate that we need either Bo or Gatewood to be pretty good in game 1 to start the season with a win. Looking forward to these opening contests being easier in the future.

I saw Joey go up against some of the top high schools in Florida for 3 years, and make them look silly. Then people who don't know what they're talking about mentioning him splitting time with other QBs (even though I've said a thousand times how Bartram's HC has always done that, and it didn't matter if Payton Manning was QB).

Ever since I met the kid when he was in 10th grade, and back then he was almost as big as me. I'm 6'3 and 230 lbs. Not many 15 year olds look me eye-to-eye. I just sat there and thought, this kid is 15 and a QB?!

Yeah...the “he couldn’t even start in HS what makes you think...” line got redundant in a hurry. And if he or Riley transferred, one of them would be “quitting on the team or “didn’t want to compete.” I think it’s pretty damn impressive that neither QB wanted to leave, much less stay friends.

Gatewood has a life story of still chasing his dream despite his dad skipping out on him, being bullied as a kid, and not starting in HS. He’s just easy to root for.

The QB play will determine whether it’s a 7-6/8-5 type of season versus a 11-3/15-0 season.

If QB play is good to great we will win 9+.

If QB play is meh, we will have a new coach.

I’m hoping for spectacular QB play and a 15-0 season and a $100,000,000 12 year contract for Gus.

As much as I love Shivers, I dont see him being counted on a ton. Kid has some heart and is fast as hell but his size is limiting. Id love for him to be the guy but I need to see that first

IF Gatewood is the starting qb I think his size becomes less of an obstacle. I think JG would get a lot of the inside runs much like we did with Cam and Shivers could fill more of the OMac role where his size isn't an issue.

Yea I can't wait to run some more inverted veer plays. Shivers would work great on those plays. Whether Gatewood will be able to be a consistent passer is yet to be seen, but the physical ability he has is undeniable.

Y'all are forgetting about the wild card here, the tight end.

I personally think Eli Stove takes back over his role as the jet sweep, while Anthony Schwartz takes over the vertical route position, like Darius Slayton and Sammie Coates.

“Uh, well you know with Tucker graduating, it will be tight end by committee. They’ll be physical. Some of the best tight ends in college football. We will go with pace and mix the plays and feature the tight end some. No doubt.”

It’s basically an interview with this private QB coach with some quotes mixed in from his HS coach.

Basically says that Joey split series with the other QB. That they split them even no matter how good or bad either played.

Joey is working hard with his QB coach. About 20 days this summer he’s gone back to Jacksonville FL to work on footwork, mechanics, and weight balancing.

QB coach says he’s an elite talent and he’s not run-first, that he can really sling it.

Some quotes:

quote:

“People are buying into things that they heard about Joey way back, OK, that he's more of a runner and not a thrower. And that's just false. It's wrong,” Thompson says. “He is not only capable of playing at the college level, he's got the talent to be one of the top quarterbacks in the country at that talent level. And I don't want to put pressure on Joey, but that's kind of how asinine that statement is, if somebody makes it.”

quote:

“The thing that separates Joey from a lot of guys is Joey is all about Auburn,” Thompson says. “He's present. He's not looking for what's going to happen in two years. Can I be drafted? Can I move on? Can I go make money in the league? He's all about Auburn. He's all about coach Malzahn. He's all about what he can do at Auburn? And that's his focus. And that's rare these days.”
