Haven’t seen SEC CGs either. Did Dye have to beat Bama and then turn around and beat the SEC east champion?

I've seen you make some dumb posts on this board in my time, but trying to bring up SEC championship games as an argument when they didn't even exist in the 80s might take the cake.

This was the site I visited:
LINK

And I completely overlooked that 2017 was ranked #1 instead of #3, you are right there, my bad.

quote:

A study of coaching tenures over the years reveals Malzahn has faced top-10 teams more often than any coach in Auburn history, with an average of 3.6 top 10 teams per season. That average does not include the 2018 season, which is Malzahn's sixth year coaching the Tigers.

Comparing a person with 6 years of experience to a person with 12 years is pretty silly. I mean, if you include 2018 Gus has faced 18 teams that were ranked in the top 10 at seasons end (counting GA twice in 2017), which averages out to 3.0 per year, barely above the 2.9 Tubs faced from your quote.

So even by your own standards he hasn't really faced a schedule particularly harder than Tubs. And I don't consider a team in the 9-10 ranking spots to be much tougher than one in the 15th-16th spot, so that's a completely arbitrary statistic anyway.

That’s the exact point I was making. In Dye’s era, Gus’s team would’ve been crowned SEC champions and went off and played a team similar to #8 Michigan in the Sugar Bowl like in ‘83 and every thing would’ve been honky dory on the plains.

As for the rest of your post which drifted off somewhere, have a good night.

Not really. Statistics are statistics. The ratios are what matter. I think it is silly for someone who who has watched what has happened in the past 10 years in the SEC and especially the SEC west and compare that to any other time in history for this program. I was around during the Dye days and what we are facing now is just crazy... Jang gave you the stats. Even if you dont want to believe them

I agree that you can not count 2019 but if it holds, we will play 4 of the top 7 teams as of pre season rankings. Obviously that wont hold but its just a show of what we face every year now.

In Gus’s first two years alone he faced 14 different ranked teams including 8 top ten teams.

Stats are there that show Gus’s annual grind is close to the equivalent of 1983 or 2003.

2019 football schedule according to the early polls:

SB Nation: 7 ranked opponents (all in the top twenty)

Sporting News: 7 ranked opponents (all in the top fifteen)

USA Today: 6 ranked opponents (all in the top thirteen)

CBS Sports: 6 ranked opponents (all in the top fourteen)

ESPN FPI: 7 ranked opponents (all in top sixteen)

At what point did I say Gus didn't have a grind that is the equivalent of 1983 or 2003? I simply said his annual grind wasn't that much worse than what dye had to deal with ( or apparently tubs as well, based on your stats).

And trying to use in season rankings to fluff your numbers is ridiculous, only where a team is ranked at the end of the season matters, not when we played them.

The stats that were included were wins against ranked opponents, wins against top 10, wins against #1 team, etc. I also threw in a write up by 247 sports covering wins v top 10 opponents. But yes, even Tuberville had to face more top ten teams than Dye. This argument is kinda counterproductive for you.

And the stats show otherwise. Common sense also says Gus has an extra difficult obstacle in the SECCG that Dye never had to worry about. Gus also coaches 12 regular season games as well. Dye didn’t.
The rules and the bowl structure in Dye’s era were overall a joke. Dye had a great season in 1983 just to play #8 Michigan in the Sugar Bowl and then go home. I mean there was no National Championship game...but according to everybody every big bowl game was a National Championship game.

I used the same search method to gather the schedule and results from both eras: ( Dye and Malzahn.) That method was sports reference. I only use sports reference. Stop being a bitch.
