“Two point plays are special plays”

I’ve heard announcers over the years say, “this 2 point conversion is likely a special play that the staff feels can be executed flawlessly and has a high degree of success.”
I hope Gus is holding the gooduns back for later because having the fullback throw may not be the best play we have in that situation.
War Eagle!

I hope Gus learned something tonight. Going for 2 when its not necessary is not usually a good call. It could have really cost us tonight

Letting Carlson make an early extra point may have settled him down some too.
Going for 2 early made us have to chase the point late.

I keep saying that every year.
I just don't get it? Take the fricking points when you can. There is no reason for chasing points when you think you are better than your opponent.

I may be wrong but I don't remember Gus doing that before. I remember him faking it like 1000 times but I can't remember him pulling the trigger when we didn't need it

He tried to pull some BS stuff when we played Clemson the last few times. Both games his decisions probably cost us the game. He tries to get too cute at times when it isn't necessary. Take the points then put your D on the field and turn them loose.

You can't beg for Gus to be wide open and aggressive and then criticize him for going for two.
You can criticize the play call though. Cox was very close to throwing a Pick that went the other way

I have not been critical.
The throw to Canella was well designed.
Isolated a big guy on a small guy.
The two point plays:
1. The first one was unnecessary
2. The second took the ball out of our best passers hand.
Those are facts.
Washington is a well coached team, but we made it hard for ourselves at times.
Also, Cam Martin is not the answer at RB as the bell cow.
Nate Craig Myers was utilized.
Seth Williams was involved.

If Malik reads it correctly and throws it to the flat everybody would be happy. It's easy to criticize plays when the players don't execute them correctly.

I think I agree with that. Would've been nice if I could've saw a replay to really look at it.
Second call was bullshite though

Why go for a cheap 2 point play up 6 to 0 against a top 10 team?

He didn’t. He never does.

At least he didn’t spin around before throwing

Fullback throw is the new Lutzie. You better learn to love it.
I like how he had Willis take on about 6 defenders on the first attempt. None of the DL weren't awayvfron the ball.

Using the fullback on the two point play late was incredible, but ole Gus is saving our best two point play for later. It is a punt formation with Derrick Brown deep and Stidham playing right guard. Brown will twirl, then hand ball back to Tucker Brown who will fake a handoff to Marquel Harrell. Then Tucker will lateral the ball back to Make Horton who will throw it to the back up punter at the 2 yard line who will lateralto Prince Wanagho. Then Prince will run option and pitch to Stidham who will pitch to Derrick Brown who willl score.

Gus said after the game that “the team will be aggressive this year”. Take that for what it’s worth.
Honestly though, the 1st 2-point attempt was a great playcall. Malik just has to hit Cox on the flat and it’s a great call. The CoxCat play call was stupid, terribly thrown ball from Cox. Schwartz wasn’t even close to the end zone (maybe 1 1/2 yardline) when going up for the ball. That has to be a jumpball in the end zone to be successful.

I am not a fan of the swinging gate, but the holder has a presnap read that determines whether or not to kick it. My guess is when we brought the guy in motion UW didn't adjust so we snapped it. Malik needed only to throw the ball to the flat for it to have worked. IMO Malik panicked, which isn't a good sign for a guy who is the #2 QB.
Saying the play was called is likely not correct. Malik was given the freedom to audible from a PAT to a 2 point try based on UW's alignment.

Yep, this is the biggest difference in Malik and Marshall that I’ve seen. Malik wants to be the hero and believes in himself a ton. That’s why last year he was pulling almost every zone read. He’s gotta learn that's not being the hero, it’s just poor decision making.

Then have Stidham hold extra points IF we are going to “read” the defense.
It’s silly to not take an almost sure point at that juncture of the game.
Maybe I’m wrong about the situational aspects of the audible.
I think going up 7 to 0 is pedestrian, but makes it where you don’t have to chase the point later.

Dumb to go for 2 when leading 6-0.
