Three things I saw that were encouraging Offensively

Two plays that were not runs up the middle after a big first down. One was a swing pass and the other Nix kept the ball on the read for a big gain. The third was a pass to the middle of the field to Sal.

That was encouraging. Little more reminiscent of the great Baylor offenses.

I think it was you Jang that mentioned the chunk plays with crossing routes last year in a different thread. I agree 100% that we need more of that to win this week. The catch Sal made in the 1st qtr to get down inside the 10 was nice and I wonder why we dont do that kind of stuff more often. Esp with him and when Seth gets back. Just big bodies that can get in the middle and just sort of post up a safety or LBer.
I came away from this weekend with a little more confidence with the offense. Maybe the coaches saw some things early in the season that were not quite ready and just kept banging it to work on it. It seems like Gus called the game this week more like it needs to be going into league play with some different stuff mixed in that he knows can work for this team. Getting that flea flicker on tape early can possibly get SEC DCs to preach staying deep to their safeties and help open the middle of the field. Idk just some thoughts. I do feel better about the aTm outcome than I did the past 2 weeks.

That particular throw to Sal was a prett deep route. We don't usually have enough time for those to develop.
The one that Hastings dropped was just a 10 yard slant we should run those all day. plus the 4 yard slants that bama makes a living off of

I didn't get to watch much, did we do any RPO? I feel like Bo can execute that well.

It was. I’m amazed that in Gus’s tenure he doesn’t run those plays yet we did so like a blip on the radar during the last couple drives of the UCF game, and the second half of the A&M game and they were amazing. Teasers. Evidence that a real passing offense is somewhere in Gus’s playbook.
We had Stidham then, and Nix now, and the man enamored with pocket passers is still using the Gatewood offense.
Drink!

Can you remind me what they labeled Stidham?

Bo Nix looks effective running it every time he keeps it. In college football.

If Stidham was also labeled DT, why should I believe Nix is DT?
Didn’t Rivals and ESPN label him a pocket passer?

Well we've seen it games, for one thing. He simply has quicker feet than Stidham. I agree that the DT recruiting moniker can be a misnomer but it's not the case here. He's not Nick Marshall but he's a really good athlete.

True. I just think the 7-13 yard cross/slant over the middle could eat up defenses. At least back them off a bit.

Regardless of whether it was Bo or Joey, when we were running RPO, the offense produced much better.

He can escape the pocket just like other great pocket passers such as Rodgers, Luck, and others. And yes he is quicker than Stidham. But I’ll withhold calling him a DT QB until I see him in conference play. If is my opinion that players are not dual threat unless they do can do well on designed runs as well.

The first designed run against Oregon sold me on his dual threat capabilities. Now can he hold up through this season being ran consistently? Time will tell. But he’s definitely a dual threat qb.

We will see. I doubt he even gets to 250 yards rushing for the season. Wouldn’t mean he’s a bad DT QB if he doesn’t which is why I don’t like labeling him as such, it means he’s more effective in other ways such as escaping to pass. Baker Mayfield type plays.

You still havent answered the question of who the number 1 dual threat Qb was in recruiting was last year.

Hey, look, another perfectly fine thread derailed by the same nonsense.
