The UGA win is a great start...

Hopefully Gus has learned to go for the throat and not relent when getting up on an opponent. The last two Clemson games, last years UGA and this seasons LSU cannot be repeated. Go out, win the next two games and it'll be time to assess our situation at HC.

I think if we give it 100% both onfield & on the sidelines against Bama, win or lose Gus will probably be OK. If Auburn wins their bowl game, we'll have 10 wins at the very least, which I'm sure few people expected earlier in the season...

Some of you guys, man
9-3 (6-2) with a win over #1 UGA... Gus is safe until at least next year.

Its funny as hell.
Basically what they are saying is the same thing that every fan says about every coach.
Gus wins - We good
Gus dont - screw him

It’s what fans say about every coach who’s been at a program for 5+ years.
I’m not saying give the man a lifetime contract, but UGAs body is still warm on the Pat Dye field right now and these dumbasses can’t enjoy it bc of their hatred of Gus.

After last night, Gus deserves another year. He coached with a fire that we need him to have. Aggressive play calling all night long, playing man coverage on 3rd and a mile, I loved every second of it.
He always had a unique opportunity to atone for all past missteps by taking on highly ranked versions of his rivals with our season still technically in play. And after that game last night, there is no way you fire him. I never expected we'd whip UGA like that and I love admitting when I'm wrong.

Just read the first 15 pages of the game thread. Hilarious.
I dont think people think about what changing a head coach does to a program. It totally dismantles it. Everybody gone. Everything that has gotten built gets torn down. I for one, do NOT want to ever change head coaches again. Not that I want to keep Gus but that sucks to go through.
Our defense is playing about as good as any defense any of us has seen in our lives at Auburn. We are recruiting good on defense and though people do not like what Gus does at times, they love it at others. No coach is ever going to make every call the way the fans want. And the only way "trick" or different plays ever work is to try them and fine tune them as we go.
People bitching about every single play that does not work as a "bad play call". Hell, every play call is bad if it does not work.
People need to calm down and let the program evolve. We have had as good of a run the past 8 years as any of us have seen in our lifetimes at Auburn. And all that with Alabama making what is probably the absolute best run ever in college football

Agree. I hope we are seeing his progression. We have so much invested in him.

If we have a Clemson-esque gameplan against Bama, will 9-3 still taste good?
I DID say he'd be OK if everyone lays it all out, even in defeat. When I said he'd be OK, I didn't necessarily mean in terms of job security, but in terms of confidence in him. I also said we'd probably be happy with a 10-win season, which is quite do-able even if we lose to Bama....

It'll hurt, but for the first time in a long time I don't think that's going to happen.
Alabama is playing third stringers at LB, who are talented but the depth at that position is nothing. We can run on that team. And the run is going to open up the play action. We are going to score on them.

Like I've said many times: when you get sacked 11 times in a game with a 14-6 outcome, never trailing by more than one possession, sorry but there's something horribly wrong with the gameplan.
I don't think Gus would be offended with that comment, and I'm sure he'd even concede that it wasn't his finest hour as a coach. As a fan, it's OK to simultaneously be disappointed with the results of that game AND still be excited about what's ahead...

So do we now somehow think that the gameplan was for Stidham to get sacked 11 times? Our guys got their arse kicked up front in that game. Our Oline was like marshmallows. No game plan will fix that. We tried to run and could not block them so you have to try and pass the ball. Our QB was getting his arse killed and there was nothing we could do about it. I get that some wanted short passes to get the ball out faster but that just was not there.
Sometimes your guys just get bitch slapped. Clemson did that to us once they got the momentum. Just like last night. There is no game plan that UGA could have done after the first drive that would have wroked. They got spanked up front and ran fro their life the rest of the game
Sure there are things I would have liked to see different in the Clemson game but that is always better hindsight.
I guess if we don't beat Alabama, people will be calling to tear the program down again. Its hilarious at times

Maybe you should read my posts in their entirety before deciding I'm crapping all over Auburn
And yes, if we ran a couple of plays against Clemson like we witnessed against A&M and UGA, it would've helped alot more than hurt. Maybe we still lose, but there'd be far less second-guessing for sure...

If we lose to Bama some will melt. Others will look at the play calls and hopefully see that the players were well coached and the game plan executed and adjustments made. All I want is a coach that gives us the chance to win in every game.

quote:Exactly! our two losses were by 4 and 8 points on the road in 2 of the top 5 toughest venues in the country. The fact that we can say we led by 20 in every SEC game going into Alabama is incredible
We got that this year

Not to mention a lot of those sacks in the Clemson game were on the qb not getting rid of the ball. A QB who hadn't taken a game snap in almost 2 years. He's gotten better each week and he's coming back next year. You want to frick with that by having him learn some brand new scheme? No thanks.

One thing that is consistent about Gus is that he always saves his best game planning for the Gumps. We were close the last two years with Jermery Johnson at qb. This was a great win for Gus, hopefully it fixed him.

I have always hoped Gus becomes a great coach.
I think he might well be on the cusp, if he can beat Alabama.
He did not have much HC experience when he took over. He has addressed the biggest weakness from his first years (defense). He looks like he got the memo on going for the kill and not trying to sit on the lead.
I think he certainly is around for another year. Honestly, look at the programs in the SEC in freefall right now.
I think Alabama will still be very, very tough. Saban will have his guys ready to play. But Gus always has a plan for Alabama, even when we are remarkably outmatched by them.
UGA was a great start and I hope we finish strong.
