Strength and Conditioning

This has been bothering me for a while now. How in the holy hell did mandatory workouts become optional at AU? I've never known any team on any level where strength and conditioning were not mandatory. Do we really have guys on this team that have been here at least 2 years now and have rarely if ever worked out? To me that is as bad as Tubs deciding to hang it up recruiting wise for his last 2 years.

Chizik told players to pray the night before about workouts. If God told them they should go, then go. If God did not want them to go, they stay at home and read their Bible. It is a win-win!

Have you taken a look at Travon Reed's arms lately?

They were strong in practice.

no not really, but I do remember a quote from Trovon before the season started stating that this was the first off season he had ever worked out. He said he was afraid of losing his speed. He also mentioned that he arrived at AU at around 170 lbs.. Point being that he made this statement this past summer. He has been at AU for 2 years now. WTF??

I would have gone with " Chizik asked them to pray to be strong and when they were still weak, he told them that God obviously doesn't love them"

Here is the article. LINK It claims he never lifted a weight in high school and it wasn't until after his RS freshman season that he got serious in the weight room. That's 2 full seasons on campus before he started working out.
Looking at the way we get pushed around, he obviously wasn't alone.

Maybe just maybe had our defensive unit in 2011 hit the weight room then Chizik would not have slowed down the offense to protect the defense.Have y'all ever heard any other school have to "dumb down" their schemes so the players could understand.I'm pretty sure Saban would have looked at those players and told them to GTFO.

At this point, you have to consider the juniors and seniors next year to be lost causes. You don't wait to start a strength and condition program your last 2 years of school. We've basically been playing with high school players the past couple of years, conditioning wise. It's very easy to see why we were repeatedly run out of the stadium.

Who said they were optional?

What about the rumors of no tackling to the ground in practice?? Would sure explain a lot, but hard to imagine.

Obviously he is gone and it doesn't matter but it is worth mentioning that there is no telling if all that was true or not.

Good thing we have a DL full of seniors next year. Whitaker and Carter will be Sr. Wright and Blackson will be Jrs.

Blackson and wright could have been so dominant too, tons of natural talent. Damn you Gene!
Also can we finally agree Yox did not all of a sudden lose his touch? These kids just wanted to be NCAA legends on the XBOX instead of real life.

Whitaker seems like a great guy, but he really pisses me off as a football player.
Top 10 DT in the country coming out of high school, and he hasn't done a freakin' thing here besides get blown 5 yards off the ball. So frustrating.

Agree. I started a thread about Yox a few weeks ago saying the same thing. One does not just lose the abilites to whip kids into shape, something else was going on.

Coaching. I tired to give Pelton the benefit of the doubt, but he is awful. Both of our DTs play too damn high. You know the only saying "low man wins" our guys seem to stand straight up when the ball is snapped and get blown off the LOS.
Also Im not one of those that pines for Tracy Rocker. Hell at this point I want Don Dunn and Terry Price back. DL was always great under them
