Per EAPN radio I just heard on my way home from lunch. They have already called him. My guess is he is a back up option once Gundy says no. Still an question whether he would even accept the offer.

I'd be surprised. He gave the HC gig a whirl and wasn't successful. He seems too old to right the dumpster fire that is TN football. Also, Alabama state retirement system.

I love Steele. But if he were to leave I hope we give the defensive coordinator job to Travis Williams.

While I would be happy with T-Will as El Capitan, I'd want to ensure he has a good first mate "co-captain", with some experience on DC pitfalls. That's a huge jump from 2 years LB coach to running a SEC defense

Steele is doing amazing work with Auburn, why risk giving that up for another possible failed HC position? At a failing UT.

It could be his dream though to retire as a head coach, but I hope not.

Swing by the coaching changes board looks like Gundy might have said yes.

I think he could manage to pull himself away from the RSA for 3-4m a year for 5 years.

That RSA thing is way over blown. His state salary is probably in the 80-100 k range. He wouldn’t turn down 4 MM a year to save a 60k a year retirement.

Whatever we are paying Steele, it isn't enough.
