Placeholder for starting lineup predictions for the beginning of the season. I haven’t decided on a couple positions yet and want to study and see what I can find out from others. But anyone want to go ahead can below and I’ll put mine in within the next day or so.

Just want to point out I was the one last year that Capers and Canion didn’t look like they were going to be contributors and got dogged out that they were gonna be starters lol. You can’t gather they information from 20 seconds of video. Well if you are a coach and know what to look for sure you can. Best of luck to everyone hope it doesn’t turn into a shitfest on here. All predictions in my opinion are valid I might disagree but that’s the fun.

You on this train again? Maybe I’m mistaken but weren’t you the Gatewood hype man.

I respect your prediction but I can all but 100% say Ashford won’t be the starter.

starters only really matter at qb and OL the rest of the groups rotate so much that it doesnt matter but heres my best guess

QB Calzada

RB Tank/Hunter (BOTH legit stars)

WR Landen King
WR Tar'Varish Dawson
WR Shedrick Jackson

TE John Samuel Shenker ( i think the freshman Micah Riley Ducker will play a good bit because of his blocking ability)

OL

LT Jackson
LG Council
C Brahms
RG Keiondre Jones
LT Troxell

Defense

DE Hall
DT Jones
DT Wooden
DE Eku

LB Owen
LB Asante

CB Pritchett
CB Simpson

NB James

FS Bridges
SS Puckett

WR Landen King

Hoke recently reported that King is working at the same spot as Dawson & Ja'Varrius Johnson, which means that it looks like he'll be a "gadget" player this year, as opposed to a full-time starter. Both Dawson and Johnson are more prepared to play a more regular role at that spot.

You really want to compare bad takes?

You’re still sucking off Gus and quitter Nix. I can 100% say you have no idea who will be the starter. IMO, Ashford by far has the most upside. If the Oline can’t protect anyone, I want the most dynamic runner taking snaps. And Ashford has better accuracy than Nix who Harsin started last season.

I’m fine with either Calzada or Ashford starting out. I just don’t know how anyone can say 100% one guy has the spot locked up, with the lack of information we get. If Calzada or Ashford sucks, I hope they give the other a shot. Finley? I will burn this mother down…

Outside of Calzada he might be the biggest impact player from the transfers. Jayson Jones and DJ James can be as well but McDonald I think is going to fit in very well with the experienced defensive backfield. Obviously you have to play Bridges and Wooden some to get some experience as well.

I really like Jayson Jones. Very interested to see how the middle of the DL works itself out because that’s a guy that you want to get a lot of snaps, IMO

I don’t know enough about James but he obviously has opportunity to play often

I think just the opposite. I think he gets the Big slot role that Fromm plays sometimes. I also think he is a backup at one of the outside spots as well. The thinking is to small to be a hand on the ground TE, not fast enough to be a burner WR. Think of him as you would Kyle Pitts from UF a couple years ago. That's the thought process just have to see if it works out that way.

Landon made a sick catch in the IB but he really didn’t prove he could be a dependable player. Just my .02

Did you think there wouldn't be a spot for this thread at the beginning of the season? Weird to me to start a thread a month out as a placeholder in a board where you can start a thread anytime.

This is what Hoke wrote about him recently:

quote:

Confirmed that he’s back at the H position with Tar’Varish Dawson and Jar’Varrius Johnson. The coaches wanted King to learn more of the offense after spring, but now he’ll settle back into that H position.

What that means is he’ll be a situational player and they’ll look to get him involved in certain situations, more than an every-down receiver. I still think he’ll move around, but the H will be primary.

quote:

Situational because if he’s behind Dawson and Johnson, those dudes are every down players. That makes me think King will play plenty, but in terms of real opportunities, I feel like it’ll be more situational.

So yes, he'll play the "Big Slot" role, but if you read through those quotes, I would temper the expectations as to how big his role will be because of the heavy implication of "situational". Did Kyle Pitts ever leave the field for Florida? I get that King is 6'5 and not a WR or a TE, but it's a real disservice to the kid to keep bringing up Kyle Pitts. There are a million other 6'5 tweener TE/WR guys who aren't Kyle Pitts lol. King is a 3-star recruit with not much production; he's not a unicorn player like Pitts was/is.
