re: Season football ticket holders 2019
Are there any studies about how the “next” generation purchases tickets?

I think we are in the last generation of what I call “dedicated” sports fans.

I think that setting aside 7 or 8 weekends for home games is sort of going away as time and distance are realities of modern life. I had season tickets for awhile, but now I just stubhub the games I want to attend.

Going forward I don’t know if the season ticket model is sustainable.

What changes do you think may occur in the future regarding ticket sales?

How does the in stadium experience evolve to compete with man cave concept?

Will not buy tickets again until GusShortBus is gone. Make the BOT feel the consequences of keeping a lame duck coach.

Thinking about bumping up to the next donation level and getting sideline tickets this year.

Old guys like me will continue to buy season tickets, but the cost for younger families is difficult. Millennials already make lower wages, have higher dept and less prosperous futures. (Note not blaming Mellinnials). We already see folks not buying away game tickets and Auburn did not sell out a single game last year. Athletic departments treat fans terrible and that includes our head coach. Without a doubt attendance is on a downward path.

I live in SC and see zero evidence of millennials not buying season tickets at Clemson or USCe.

I’ll renew, I’m a glutton for punishment. I might just go to the VA hospital today for the fun of it.

I'll show up like I have for the last 31 years. I have sat through a lot worse shite than this. At least we were competitive in every game I attended this year. And we are not on probation or not being stalked by the NCAA. Nor are we having kids arrested constantly.

Agree with this post. We are always competitive which is why I don't quite get the hate from some. Have to be bammers. I'm disappointed in the season but Gus has brought some of the greatest games ever to the plains. Many of them, we were the underdog. Nobody rally's around a guy that has shown such magic. Recruits well etc. I think he should feel the pressure but the people trying to tear down the program from within, including posters on her, are NOT Auburn people. I'll never go to a game with Gus there crowd...don't go. Nobody wants your sorry arse there anyway.

I will cut the check as usual but I am concerned that Auburn and really all major college football programs, are going to price a lot of people out of the market.

In line with those thoughts:
1. Season tickets likely means at least 2 seats per game so even just buying general public seats is around $600 per book nowadays so figure at least $1000 for tickets
2. Early and late game times make a hotel room almost a necessity for those living more than 3 hours away. I live 4.5 hours away. So figure at minimum $100 for a decent room and hour from Auburn. Maybe you can stay with a friend or relative once or twice so $500.
3. Gas, Food, and drink on game day and travel for two people: scrimping it still is probably another $300.

So going to home games is going to run at least $2000 plus whatever your time is worth even if you economize everything. Ultimately, people have more choices than ever regarding entertainment. The time cost was the big thing for me. So much time in the car taking up several weekends.

The season ticket, go to every game model Versus stubhubbing a home or away game once or twice a year and watching rest on TV is a real threat to these large stadiums. I see many people sort of choosing to make football a part of life rather than the central theme of every fall. I made this decision a few years ago after several 1130 game times.

Busier lives, more economical entertainment choices, every game on TV, more difficult to tailgate, park, etc.

The overwhelming national media coverage also gives fans the perception that the only thing that matters is winning it all. Fans previously could celebrate a nice season when they beat their rivals, that no longer is the mindset (see Auburn fans who could not enjoy the 2017 season)

It’s a huge problem for big time college football. Step 1 will be ticket prices coming down, can only hope Auburn realizes in time. Teams make so much money on TV contracts these days, that might change too, but trying to hold onto gate receipts that will slip away soon is short sighted

That’s a ridiculous budget.

We can get round trip from AZ, catch a game, hit the bars and hotel for half that.

I believe Makers is talking about 2K or close per season not per game so I actually think his estimate is very good if not a little thin. I live 2.5 hours away and probably spend that if not more every year and dont usually use my tickets at every game.

I meant “all” home games.

Just to clarify.

re: Season football ticket holders 2019
I gave up buying season tickets several years ago when my kids were so involved with sports and other activities on the weekend that it didn't make sense. Since then I've been to the 1-3 games a year with relative ease and less expense. Season tickets just doesn't make sense anymore.

I went to the Atlanta United game a few times this year and I'm telling you, that's the new frontier. College football is indeed pricing itself out, and the kids aren't playing football anymore. Major college football and the NFL are in for a rude awakening.

In 2016 after AU and LSU had dropped a game, I bought 4 together well before game day for less than the price of two for a ticket holder. When I just need 2, I wait even longer and the tickets are very discounted.

“It just means more” may not apply to the ticket market in general.
