LINK We all knew this....

quote:

The offensive line wasn’t good. But this is also true: The dark secret about Stid is that he struggles mightily in the face of pressure. When he’s kept clean and the field is wide open in front of him, his tools, which are mostly above-average across the board, play up. But when the pocket is collapsing and/or coverage is tight, something breaks in his brain. No longer standing tall and confidently firing ropes up the seem, he devolves into a dithering, wishy-washy mess, pumping the ball nervously, losing control of his feet, hitting “Floor 1” with his eyes, and losing, in one fell swoop, logic and accuracy. And this, folks, is why his pick of Baylor out of high school was so inspired: No system spaces the field better. If Stidam, instead of declaring, had grad transferred to FSU to play his last collegiate season under Art’s son Kendal, now the Seminoles’ OC, I think you would have seen a monster rebound (assuming big improvement from FSU’s OL), potentially an All-American campaign. Because if you give this kid five free seconds to pick from one of four receivers evenly spaced across the field, he’s going to identify the best option and throw a catchable ball. But when that isn’t the case, he isn’t. And that’s what we saw at Auburn this year. Stidham should not be in the draft. He’s one of those high school prospects who goes into God Mode in seven-on-seven summer games played in shorts. The mechanics are flawless, the decisions are sound, the balls are going to be thrown with plus placement and touch, and all the tools the NFL is looking for will be on display. I would have bet my life that Stidham was going to look like a first-rounder at his pro day ...

He’d have a monster season playing for FSU behind their OL? Jesus. Did this guy watch that disaster last year?Their OL was far far worse than ours.

I agree with a lot of what he had to say but saying that transferring to FSU to have a monster year is absolutely idiotic. This is the worst the FSU program has looked in my lifetime.

Still not sure how Gus doesn't get this. If you're going to recruit this kind of QB, you have to run this kind of offense.

I think it’s a stretch to say he shouldn’t be a part of the draft but he’s certainly worth a 6/7th Rd pick for some teams. He will get drafted in the 4th Rd and be in the league for 5 years then go do something else, maybe coaching.

He will probably end up as a clipboard quarterback, making lots of money.

quote:

The NFL has mandated that a third string quarterback must carry at least one clipboard (preferably seven) with him at all times. It is to be his constant companion, like a shepherd's crook or a comedy writer's crying towel. He will look down at it as much as possible, scribble mysterious notes upon its surface and refer to it for guidance when something confusing happens, like someone calling a time out or a streaker running across the field.

Bill Belicheck will draft him with a late pick and develop him into a star.

It would be the most "Auburn" thing ever if that happens and he turns into the next Tom Brady. Didnt do shite at AU, but goes into the league and fricking kills it in the right system.

I don't think he is a bad QB tho. HS ball in TX is a track meet. Going against SEC D's is basically AA minor league. It takes time. Some longer than others. He really needs another year in CFB. Then he needs to hold a clip board a few years.

He was even mediocre when he was left alone and clean. There is no telling how many wide open over throws he had

I would have to go back and count the cuss words to tally them

Article is dumb. The same could be said for any decent QB. Put them behind AUs line last year and get similar Stidham results. Put Stidham behind bama's Oline and watch his numbers improve.

Even when he had a clean pocket, he would bail out over nothing. His pocket presence was absolutely horrible.

Barrett Trotter syndrome aka David Carr syndrome. When you get hit so much all you can do is look at the rush. I can gaurentee you there is not another qb in this draft that was sacked 11 times in one game.

I'm not re-watching the game, but I can almost guarantee you that some of those 11 sacks were due to Stidham having horrible pocket presence and bailing out too soon.
