Starting to think about who will replace Rod. Is there anybody on staff now that has the potential to step up you think? Rod did all three major sports. Somebody with that talent is hard to find.
Also, wonder if they will change up the whole crew now? I for one, wouldnt mind seeing Stan White go away.

Andy Bircham should make the calls with Stan in his usual spot.

I bet Andy sticks with women’s basketball since he’s done that for 30 years. I wonder if Andy gets football, who would do men’s basketball in that case?
Brad Law is light years ahead of Brit Bowen.

I did not know this. I didn't even know we did radio for women's basketball.

I hope that Auburn does the same thing that LSU did 4 years ago when they replaced long time play by play man Jim Hawthorne.
LSU conducted a national search and hired Chris Blair from Georgia Southern. Blair now does radio for LSU football, basketball, and baseball.

This will probably be the only time I want an Auburn guy for the job.

I agree somewhat. These radio callers don't truly have a ton of listeners. Most people nowadays are watching live or on TV.
Because of that, there should be two main requirements for the job:
1) Have an iconic voice that can be used to solidify moments in sports history as important and memorable
2) Love Auburn
Some might scoff at the "love Auburn" part, but what else are these guys doing besides having a great time calling the game? Kick 6 is one of the greatest sports calls of all time, and it worked because Bramblett and White were pretty much crying tears of joy when it happened.

I'm totally against a national search. Has to be someone who loves Auburn.

Why?
Have you listened to Chris Blair for LSU? IMO he is an excellent play by play announcer...he shows enthusiasm, emotion, and does an excellent job of "painting a picture" with his words.
He may not have "loved LSU" prior to his job at LSU, but you would never know that by listening to him.

I agree. Rod had a golden voice, and he was as professional as they come in the way he prepared and handled himself on the job, but what truly made him special for us is that he was a lifelong fan and you could hear his love and passion for Auburn in his calls.
The best way to honor Rod and carry on his legacy is to find somebody who will cherish being The Voice of Auburn as much as he did.

I seem to recall that Rod was somewhat of a controversial choice when he was hired to fill Jim Fyffe's shoes, because a lot of people thought we 'settled' on an AU guy who was already on the payroll.
Wonder if Troy play-by-play guy Barry McKnight, who was the 2nd choice after Rod back in '03 (and a close friend of Rod & Paula's) would be interested in the job.
ETA: And even though I shouldn't have to say this, it absolutely sucks that we are having to discuss this

Umm no.
Get someone that knows Auburn and it’s fans. Nothing worse than some outsider coming in and acting like they know when they don’t

I'm glad this wasn't the philosophy on AU's most recent Athletic Director search

My guess is Paul Ellen...

Quite a difference in your athletic director and your play by play guy
You can have different philosophies for different positions

True, and for years Auburn always wanted an "Auburn man" as AD. I am thankful that mentality wasn't used during the most recent AD search.
It just limits your pool of qualified applicants if one of the qualifications is that "you must be a lifelong AU fan / or alumn"....that's all I'm saying

But there’s a reason to look for an Auburn guy for your play by play. That’s what I’m saying
