I really wish I "wanted" to live in the cold for a few years. I think it would be a great experience. When we talked about semi retirement, it was a discussion. To move somewhere cold and do two years.
But after spending a week in paradise, I quickly squashed that idea and decided to just go where its warm, where the sun shines and where the women are half dressed.
I sorty envy you guys. I bet its a great place to live. I really enjoyed it the few times I have been out. So much to do outside. 4 months out of the year.

FTFY
Winter is arguably a bigger outdoor activity market than summer is due to ski season.

Great news!
We started looking at things to do based on the advice in this thread. I appreciate everything. We arrive in Denver around 9 PM, so we are trying to decide if we just check Denver out for half a day then drive to the great outdoors or just head out once we get there.

Denver is better late afternoon/night than morning. But the biggest reason why you should head straight into the mountains is to beat the traffic going up

I was bullish on the Springs when we were first moving here, and then I found out we have a DBC. Moms iced latte all day.

Jones, you really do live downtown.
Jyrdis - be prepared for traffic to be hauling butt and then come to a complete stop. I locked up the brakes a few times on I25 and I70. Know your plans yet? Staying close to the front range?

and while I enjoy some aspects of it, there’s other areas id prefer to live. But we can’t get too far away from my wife’s hospital

My wife worked downtown for 10 years. She misses the vibe but not the drive.
When did you move to CO?

Almost 6 years ago now. I was back and forth for a bit for some of it due to personal life and work

Enjoy man! I’ll also be headed to Estes in late May early June with the fam!

Not yet. But I’m not usually the one who gets to make plans. I get options and choose the one I like the best. I guess that’s the price I pay for not doing the research, though Denver Biscuit Company sounds good.

quote:Utah is a high-plains desert, so even when its cold here its not really all that cold palpably. There's no humidity - execpt for a few weeks in the summer - so you just wear 2-3 layers in the winter and life is good. Staying hydrated is no joke here though if you're active.

Colorado may be different for weather and humidity.

Not by much if at all, and the sun usually is shining after a snow. You have more issues with keeping your windshields clean after a snow than during a snowstorm. You have to refill washer fluid more than anything.
Colorado winters are not difficult outside of an occasional heavy snow or severe cold streak.

If visiting RMNP, be sure to check for closures from the fires.

Rocky - may I ask how long you have lived in CO?

And for the record, I am a expert at staying hydrated. Utah sounds nice. I will probably fly through there again one day.

I don't live there anymore but I lived in Highlands Ranch and the Springs for about 15 years.

Utah is fantastic. I prefer it to Colorado. Going to Jackson Hole this June. Never been there before.
