I was going to hold off a little on KN’s intel drop. There’s some good stuff and I like for him to have that scoop out for a bit before sharing

KN likes where Auburn is with Hunter. Also thinks Auburn is in a sneaky good spot for Cardwell. Mom is from Alabama and he might not be very excited about his other finalists. Announcement in 10 days

Is Hunter more like a "depth 3*" or a "diamond in the rough 3*"?

Was about to say. Tubs' offenses sucked too aside from 2004-05.

Hell if I know

I’ll say that his tape looks good and his OL looks pretty poor. That coupled with no camps (Covid) plus being in rural Mississippi probably wasn’t helping him out either. He’s super fast. Looks like a RB — the dude is all legs. And he looks like he can catch. Knows where the ball is coming and runs toward it nicely. He’ll need a lot of work on identifying running lanes and I’m betting he’s green on blocking.

Auburn is by far his best offer, though. Sometimes the paysites miss guys but the offer list usually tells the whole story.

Tubs had in his entire 10-year AU career (McNeil in '06, Grubbs in '07, Dunlap in '08, and Ziemba in '11).

Who is Dunlap? You must mean Tyronne Green.

So you back on the bus?
The bus failed to pass Alabama Highway Patrol inspection and has had its license to operate in the state revoked.

So, no

Can we steer this back toward recruiting?

2021 updates per 247:

KN likes where Auburn is with 4* ATH Tar’varish Dawson. Says intel suggests he’s heavily leaning toward Auburn

KN also mentions that Auburn likes where they’re at with 4* LB Trevin Wallace

KN says to keep an eye on 4* OT Colby Smith. Didn’t sign with the Vols during the early period and Friend recruited him there

Auburn is also recruiting #1 2021 JUCO OT, Jordan Moko

My point was, as piss poor as Gustav's OL recruiting was (and it clearly was), Tubs' wasn't much better. Neither was Chiz or Bowden's. You have to go back 30+ years to the early Dye era to when we routinely got quality OL to commit out of HS.

IIRC Tubs had two highly regarded OL classes in 10 years: 2002 (Marcus McNeil, Jonathon Palmer and Will Ward all were multi-year starters, as was Grubbs who was recruited as a DE) and 2007 (the Pugh/Ramsey/Ziemba class).

As a rule we haven't done consistently well recruiting OL since the mid-1980s. It wasn't just a Gustav problem, although he seemed to have taken it to another (lower) level.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it wasn't until the past decade that OL received high recruiting ratings. Or maybe that's just how I remember it since we consistently recruited poorly in that area

Tubs wasn’t an especially great recruiter in general. They had a great run of development and eye for talent but ultimately he found himself way behind.

quote:

Neither was Chiz

Chizik was solid actually:
5* Westerman
4* Coleman
4* Dismukes
4* Robinson
4* Mack
4* Gayden
4* Young
4* Diamond
4* Miller
4* Callahan
4* Kozan
3* Mosley
3* Slade
3* Leff

This is exactly the kind of recruiting you need on OL to win championships. Lots of misses, sure, but there’s so much talent volume there that it makes up for it

Tubs also embraced Jimmy Johnson's philosophy of recruiting and converting HS DL and making them OL, so we never had highly ranked OL classes. McNeil had a back issue which scared a lot of programs off, and Ben Grubbs was a DE IIRC (I see now you mentiened this already). Gus never recruited DL for the OL, he just didn't sign many good OL, aside from when BYU-Grimes was at AU.

Not sure if anyone remembers Tunde Fariyike but he’s a Orthopedic Surgery resident at NYU now.

Former 2* OC, second string to Dismukes. Made a couple of starts when Dismukes was suspended

Going to be interesting to see what happens with TWill and the now open Fla LB job. TWill is one of the major reasons he likes Auburn and he grew up a Fla fan.

I remember the name. Good for him. I recall him playing more than that but perhaps I'm mistaken.

I’m sure he did, I know he was on special teams. Not sure how much work he got on the line

Anyhow, I remembered when looking through the old recruits that he was planning to go to med school so it’s pretty cool to see him succeeding still

Neibur (sp?) mentioned that UF didn't need any additional LB's. I hope that is the case.
