Question for those familiar with the Bham area

We're going on quick weekend trip over there in a few weeks. I'd personally like to drink cheap beer at a minor league baseball game one night and be able to walk back to the hotel. Is Regions Field in a decent enough area to do this? Any suggestions on hotels?

Courtyard Marriot should be right there and it is in the UAB area which I've never thought was bad.

Regions is in a plenty good area to walk around. I live over in the southside area and walk to games there all the time. Courtyard Marriott is definitely your best bet. I believe it is about 1/2 a mile away.
Good People Brewery is right across the street from the ballpark as well. Usually have a food truck parked out front too.

I hope it's more than a few weeks. First home Barons game is April 12th.

10 years ago I wouldn't but that area is pretty nice now.

Bham is on the up and up. Give it 10 more years and it's going to be a lot like in Nashville. Assuming corrupt city leaders don't mess up...

I hope...but

are the problem...may even use "incompetent" for some, rather than corrupt

Ya, lets not get ahead of ourselves
Birmingham has definitely been improving but they still are far away from being on par with a Nashville or Charleston
Birmingham also could have a huge growth setback if Daichi Life moves Protective out of Birmingham to consolidate with their other US business interests. There isn't a good reason to keep them in Birmingham

When I get too drunk at a Barons game I just have to walk back to the new apartment building behind the right field wall to have a place to crash
I don't know how you poors manage

You enjoy living there? Been looking into it. Tired of driving from Cullman to bham every day for work.

Moved here from New Orleans area. Love it now. Really on the up and up like the other poster said.

Actually it's my sister and BIL that live there. It's super nice if you're willing to pay $1600+ for a 1 bedroom.
I'd rather pay half that for twice the room in Hoover, or save the $1000 a month and get an older 1 bedroom in Highland Park. Im also not a big fan of the whole "community" feel they try to pull off in those new apartment buildings. frick my neighbors, I don't want to know you
Damn son, that has to be hell on your car. You must be changing your oil about once a month

I live in the Southside/UAB area as well and really enjoy being close Regions Park. Thirsty Thursdays can't get here quick enough
This area is on the up and up for sure

I thought this was the thread where we bash Bham.
Have we moved past that nowadays?

The only people in here that would bash Birmingham probably live in Chambers/ Randolph County and are just jealous of people that get to live in civilization.
And those people are too scared to talk trash in front of me because they know the finna cash these hands (and they'll probably have to drive 2 hours to the nearest Sonic to do it )

I've lived downtown and in Highland Park over the last couple of years....now I've purchased a house in Crestwood and love it.
Like they say, Crestwood is the Best Wood!

The Shelby county folk there used to have the most to say.
I'll be back in Bham for a week in May. I'm excited to see what's changed

Birmingham is the easy bake oven of "civilization"
It may be a city by Alabama's standards, but it is a glorified town to people who live in the real "civilization"
