Probably moving to Tuscaloosa, what's an Auburn Alum to do?

Long story short, I can work anywhere, but my wife can't. We've been stuck in NM for a few years now and want to get back to family, her job has very few prospects in the SE, so we kind of have to take what's available for her.
So do any of you have any experience living in/around Tuscaloosa? My priorities have shifted, so I think I can deal with the Crimson overflow, but I'm open to suggestions of where to live.
And yes, the wife is an AU alum also.

Live in Birmingham and commute.

There are some nice middle to upper class neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city of Tuscaloosa. Notably Northport: The farther away from University Blvd you are, the better your odds of not hating it, and the safer your family will be. Stay away from Holt, Cottondale, Alberta, and all of the poorer, smaller cities surrounding Tuscaloosa also. With that said, I was mainly just a student in Tuscaloosa, so middle wealth and Northport werent really my scene. There are a lot more updated condos since the tornado as well. Much of the city around McFarland and 15th looks unfamiliar to me now because of the new condos and appartment buildings. .
My best advice: find a realtor.

Guy in my office commutes from Tuscaloosa to Bham every day. He claims to want to kill himself weekly.
It’s a long drive and full of road work. Not sure I could do that every day. Definitely wouldn’t ask my wife to do it.

Do Northport, put away your Auburn gear unless you want a barrage of “Roll Tides”. Also nothing Auburn on or in your car unless you want it keyed.

My wife is from the Tuscaloosa area and from what I have seen their Northport recommendation is good advice.

Depends on what you want. If you want to live more towards the city then Northport is good. If you want to be more rural you go towards Moundville or Fosters. They have some good things out on the 69 side of Tuscaloosa. The farther away you get from campus the better imo.

The guy in my office lives near campus. He says during football season that his neighborhood is uninhabitable. They come to Birmingham for the day. He's a huge Bama fan too.

My wife is from Northport so we visit often. I wear AU gear as much as possible. Plus I have an AU debit card and car tag. It sparks convos with the locals but always respectful.
I like NP. It's kinda like Opelika... more family oriented than the neighboring college town. Think long and hard before making the wife do the bham commute. Especially if you guys have school age kids. The lost time and road construction may not be worth it.

Not a chance I’d ever commute from birmingham to Tuscaloosa

I live inNorthport, people move around so much now you will see plenty of AU fans around town, not much different than the ratio of fans you see in most North Alabama towns.
