What was thought was only a strain suffered in the Ducks game turned into much worse diagnosis found at the Senior Bowl.

It was my lateral meniscus,” Tega said. “I tweaked it the first game against Oregon. In the second game I tore it. I knew something was wrong with it and we had X-Rays and an MRI, but they thought it was just a strain. Just playing through the season it got even worse.

At the Senior Bowl it was swollen and they found it," he said. " I came back to Pensacola and met with Dr. (James) Andrews. He did another MRI, but you can’t really tell with the MRI. It doesn’t really look major. When he went in he saw it was actually bad and had to fix it.”

He was counting on his pro day to improve his draft position but the virus has prevented that from happening with draft currently scheduled for third week of April. Damn I feel bad for him. Wish they would have found that after the Ducks game.

Well that explains some of his issues this year. Can't believe our staff didn't find it. Hate it for Prince

If we are upset with anybody, it would be Andrews/his team.

So sounds like after x-rays and 2 MRI's Dr. Andrew (and his team) couldn't tell how the strain or tear was. So did surgery and found out it was a legit tear. So kudo to Tega for toughing it out for his team. Unless it was just strained and then tore it later due to the strain no harm no foul. And hopefully now it completely repaired and looking good to go after recovery. In my opinion he will still be a 3-5 round draft choice.

That is actually unacceptable considering the $$$ and attention poured into this program. Just another black eye that will hurt with recruiting

You do realize that all of the scans that happen to our players get sent to Andrews right? If the best doctors in the world didn't see it, what makes you think our staff would have?

This will not hurt recruiting. It's a torn meniscus. It's not like his leg was falling off. It can be painful, it can swell some but to think some long term damage was created is nonsense. Unless a player couldn't move or walk with it any D1 player would play through it and have it taken care of after the season.

We find some of the strangest ways to self deprecate our program.
