"I have decided to forego my eligibility at Auburn and enter the 2016 NFL Draft. This was a very tough decision for many reasons but after my family and I prayed about it, I know I am ready for the next step and that this is the best decision for me. Auburn is a special place and having the opportunity to play football at Auburn has been a dream come true. I am close to graduating, so I will continue to work towards my degree even as I pursue my dream to play in the NFL. I would like to thank all of my coaches and all of the support staff at Auburn, especially Coach (Gus) Malzahn, Coach (Rhett) Lashlee and Coach (Tim) Horton. Thank you to all of my teammates as well. Lastly, thank you to the best fans in the world! I will always be an Auburn Tiger. War Eagle!"

Peyton Barber's surprising year took another unexpected turn Monday.

The running back surprisingly declared for the NFL Draft to barely beat the league's deadline.

Barber issued this statement to AL.com:

"I have decided to forego my eligibility at Auburn and enter the 2016 NFL Draft. This was a very tough decision for many reasons but after my family and I prayed about it, I know I am ready for the next step and that this is the best decision for me. Man. Dude is not talented enough to play RB in the NFL. He should enjoy his final year of CFB.

I don't see him even getting drafted. Hope I'm wrong.

Probably the best thing for him. His stats were going to take a hit next year anyway. Jovon became the man, Kerryon's talent will demand more playing time, and Roc needs some love too.

I love Peyton, he's a good RB, but honestly the least talented of those 4 guys.

He was not going to get near as much PT next year with Jovon and Kerryon in the backfield next year. Probably decided to go based on that he sure won't rush for 1000 yards next year.

It's a position we can afford to lose one to the draft. Once I saw how good Jovon can move the ball, it occurred to me Peyton Barber was in his way. Peyton will be ok in the NFL. He doesn't have the greatest vision as a runner, but he's strong and can move quick at the LOS.

He's a better back than Roc

Barber lacks vision. He's a workhorse, nothing more.

Roc has way more potential, he just hasn't had much of a chance yet.

And Roc lacks a lot more, he couldn't will us to wins like Peyton did this year.

Roc has had chances, he hasn't earned more. If he wasn't so hyped coming out of high school no way he would be seeing the field.

I was really excited to get him and hopefully he can still salvage a career but he's been really disappointing so far.

Yeah, he's not going to carry it 30 times a game and take a beating like Barber did, but we're not going to need him too either.

Put Roc in the right role and he can hit home runs for us. Barber was never going to do that. In 250 rushes he had two go over 20 yards.

Here's how I see it...

Considering what we've read before about his learning disability, it might be the case that the struggle to stay eligible is more difficult for him in his opinion than the struggle to TRY to get drafted. (At the very least I would see some team giving a guy who was able to produce like he did in the SEC a FA shot.)

And then? What if his dream doesn't work out? Then he can always come back to school on Auburn's dime (we have that program) and finish his degree at his own, non-NCAA monitored, level and pace.

Best of luck to him.
