quote:It's a bit misleading for people to put strong emphasis in that logic though. Here are the division only standings as compared to overall West standings.
I'm reading where our RPI wont matter as much this year due to where we finish in our division, the amount of SEC teams with a strong RPI, and our non-conference schedule. Our non-conf will hurt us even if it doesnt show in the RPI rankings. We definitely need to win against Arky plus two in the tourney.
1. LSU 11-4
2. Miss St. 11-7
3. Ole Miss 9-6
4. Arky 8-7
5. Auburn 6-9
6. Bama 6-11
7. Texas A&M 5-12
as opposed to overall SEC west standings
1. LSU
2. Arky
3. Miss St.
4. Ole Miss
5. Alabama
6. Texzas A&M
7. Auburn
The only team that retains their spot when looking at overall SEC West Standings as opposed to division only standings is LSU.

Not sure why its so misleading. Yea I get your point but I just vividly remember LSU being left out in 2011. Mainly due to their weak non conf scheduling. I stated earlier its pretty much an identical scenario.
The fact of the matter is we are last in the division and we desperately need a series win against Arky.

We really need to steal one form Arkansas. If we beat Arkansas and win our first game in the SEC tournament it is pretty much for sure in right?

Depends what you mean by beat. If we sweep Arky, I'd say yes (a sweep isn't going to happen though).

If we win one game against Arkansas, don't lose horribly, win one in the SEC tournament and don't lose horribly after with possibly a second win in the losers bracket, what are our chances?

I don't really think it matters how bad you lose in this case. A loss is a loss. I don't like our chances with your scenario. It's hard to get a clear picture until this weekend is complete though.

I'd say we are probably in if all of that happens.

From everything I've read the past couple nights (this makes me an expert now btw) I think we need 3 wins between the Arky series and the SECT.

quote:It's misleading because for example at the core of their resumes IF Auburn can win the Arky series and Vandy sweeps Bama then Auburn's resume would be significantly better than Bama's but Bama are considered fairly comfortably in. IF Auburn gets 2 against Arky and Vandy sweeps Bama, Auburn's record vs. the RPI top 50 would be a somewhat respectable 11-15 while Bama's would be much worse at 9-19.

On the LSU thing, as I pointed out before them being left out in 2011 was an aboration and was the only time an SEC team with an overall record over .500 missed the NCAA's with an RPI better than 30. Them being left out in 2011 is the reason the SEC expanded the SEC tourney from 8 to 10 teams in 2012. It was so teams on the bubble could play their way in the NCAAs. Had the SEC tourney been 10 teams the SEC would have very likely gotten 1 more team in. Auburn would have played LSU in essentially an #8 vs. #9 elimination game. Most people forget that Auburn was in every projection if they could qualify. Auburn was 29-29 and needed 1 more win to qualify due to the rule that every team in the NCAAs must be over .500 in overall record.

They also had a good non conf schedule too that you are forgetting. Be realistic. AU needs a series win against Arky plus a good showing in the SEC tourney. Period. AU loses or gets swept by Arky , t's most likely that its over after the sec tourney unless they can win it. Mark it down dude.

If we go 1-2 against Arky and win 2 games in the tournament, we stand a chance of sneaking in?

I say yes. Our resume is out there despite the Arkansas series. I don't see why all of a sudden this has become the biggest series. Nobody in the country and I'd go as far to even say many of those on the committee and those making up these regional projections expect us to win the series against Arkansas. They do look for AU to take 1 from Arkansas and win at least 1 and more like 2 in the SEC Tournament.

quote:If you go back and look at my posts I said we need a series win against Arky. Gene was the one bringing up extensive scenarios. The only thing we differ on at this point is how much they need in the SEC tourney. I believe if we get 2 from Arky that would make an 8 v. 9 elimination game with Bama. IMO the winner is in and loser is out. If we only get 1 from Arky then I still think we get in if we can somehow beat LSU or Vandy, or 2 of the combo of SC and Miss St cuz their RPI's are in the top 11. playing any other teams we would need to get to Semifinal Saturday which would be 3 wins.

Better question, what teams are we fighting for the last spots?
I mean what are the last few in and who are the ones in our situation?
Do they stand a shot of fricking the duck on this one and losing their way out of the tournament?
