Because Gatewood is going to be a stud

Yep. I actually forgot about him
Certainly a grand slam even though I didnt believe he would be from the beginning.
He surprised me his last season

Not sure why this got a downvote. I'd be thrilled if it worked out like this.
Some Gatewood fanboy downvoted it. Me thinks Nix wins the job.

Gus’s running backs have maybe been the most unpredictable of all the positions. I was probably most excited about the signing of Jovon Robinson of all the RBs Gus has signed, but he turned out to be as big a bust as anyone.

He did end up being a bust but you had to give him the chance. His upside was tremendous. He was exactly the kind of back we needed. Other than all the personal issues.
Ive said it for almost 5 years now. I still do not think we have been recruiting the right backs for Gus's real system. All those scat backs and protect backs are good but we need some bigger, more talented guys. I know thats a broad statement but I have been surprised that we can not get better backs with our running game history with Gus

Stay tuned. Too early to tell.
How can we say he will be a stud when we haven't seen him throw one pass. We have no clue how he reacts on a pass play with pressure coming at him. Will he tuck and run every time? Or will he know to move around in the pocket, and look to make a play down field. How good is his accuracy? We have no clue.
So how can we say he will be a stud. He may be a stud, but he may not be our starting QB.

Yep I agree with this. If Shivers could throw and run the read option i would put him at quarterback and boogie at tailback. We need a horse that can carry the ball 20 to 25 times a game and a fast quarterback that is a serious threat of taking off. Kyler Murray would have been perfect for us. Hell, watching the UCF/LSU game, that UCF backup quarterback would be killer under Malzahn and he was a low 3 star. He had speed, size and could sling it when he needed to.

I know everyone wants Shivers to be in there somewhere but honestly, I dont see him being a big part of our offense. I may be wrong but I think he will always be a second choice to someone of size.
Dude certainly has some skills but not sure if he can be the guy.

We only got to see Harold Joiner run a few times this year in one game. He seemed pretty strong. I notice a lot of people have him slated as a HB. Did he gain some weight or something.
Why is he not being considered for tail back?

I don't think Shivers was ever signed to be "the guy." He was meant to fill the McCalleb/Grant role.

Yeah Shivers is never going to be the workhorse, but he’s definitely a guy who defenses are going to hate seeing because he is so small and fast. He’s a threat to take it to the house on any play, especially when the defense is tired.
DJ Williams is the prototypical RB at 5’11 210lbs coming out of HS. We get him and Richards and this will be a very successful RB class.

Because Gus doesn't consider him a RB. He is an Eric Smith type guy.

Listen,....
Darren Sproles:

Shaun Shivers

5.3 avg (difference between SEC and Big 12 defenses)
3 TD
SO-

Profit
I'm not saying, but I'm just saying....
Let's see what the boy looks like after an offseason in a D1 weight training program. He's a freak athlete and his HS track times are actually a hair faster than Sproles.

I saw him throwing in Spring. He can't hit the broad side of a barn, but as long as he is a running threat, it will open some things up for him to hit some wide open receivers. He's never going to fit a ball in a crease or hit a back shoulder throw. I think he's a stop gap for change of pace from Nix
