Still perplexed how this freak of an athlete doesn't get much time in big games. Hopefully he plays in the IB. Dude is lightning fast.

Reason A: #21
Reason B: Pass blocking

This is the big reason. If you notice that in passing situations yesterday they took him out as well.

He should be getting more touches than he's gotten because he's a weapon but dude has to improve as a blocker to stay on the field

Gus won't ever have a premier back that small and I don't know why. It's not like he has been able to keep the big guys healthy the past few years.

You answered your own question. If a bigger back can't stay healthy getting the primary carries in Malzahn's system how do you expect a back like Kam Martin to stay healthy? When was the last time a RB at Martin's size was a primary carrier on an SEC team?

Eta: all this said, I love Martin's skill set and he's probably the best change of pace back you could ask for

I get that it is hard for him to take on Blitzing LBs that out weigh him by 50 lbs or more. However when you have the ability to house it like he does. It is the job of the OC and Head Coach to find ways to put him in a position to be effective. Shows a lack of creativity if you ask me.

Seems like we give guys like that the ball already in Johnson and Stove

We do, but if use Kam at the same time as KJ you can let one decoy for the other. I guarantee Bamas 1st priority will be shutting KJ down. So I would think Kam could be open on some wheel routes or screens off PA.

Hopefully Stidham can pick them apart when they key on KJ.

We do which is why Kmart doesnt see that much play. He is very similar to KJ who is the feature back. Gus uses a feature back and has every year he has been here. Cam will get his time

Everyone wanting NCM to play more and get more catches but that guy cant play a single game without getting penalties and blocks for shite. Once he learns to be discipline, he will get his chances. Fortunately, our receivers are playing well.

Kam is definitely a freak for such a tiny dude, but y'all just wait until Shivers suits up for us and starts getting carries. Watch some of his highlights and do some research on his measurables and track times. Shaun Shivers is the second coming of Darren Sproles.

Did a coach say it was pass blocking or is that best guess?

He doesn't get the extra 2 to 10 yards that KJ gets under pressure. I get why he doesn't have the carries. Might cone with time and experience.

There’s is no explanation why he doesn’t get a couple carries between the twenties each quarter/half at least when KJ is clearly gassed at times. He is explosive and breaks long runs. Then being in a fresher KJ in the RZ

I hear what you are saying and we all could find something to complain about. I would choose lack of quality back up QB reps over lack of Martin reps.....but again everyone not in the fight has an opinion.

He's going to need some routes to get it out quickly

Like having a outlet guy short with the ability to make people miss in open field then go all the way.

Would love to see some 2 back sets & AU run their new read option wrinkle but instead of Stove or Davis being the 2nd option on the pass it's Martin.

I definitely agree that AU could find better ways to get him involved

No coach said anything. Just watching him whiff blocks or getting smoked by a LB during passing situations with my own eyes.

KJ can pass block. KP can hurt people when he pass blocks.

Yep. Stove is great, but he is getting keyed on when he does a jet sweep. It is good to have that same type of athleticism coming out of the backfield in our base formations. Martin is a perfect change of pace back. I'm not saying he is a full time starter, far from it with his size, but the kid makes plays and has a knack for breaking big runs. He helps our offense, but we don't use him.
