Auburn's president and board of trustees have laid the groundwork to end Jay Jacobs' tenure as athletics director, AL.com has learned. Unless the leadership changes its current position, which it discussed in a conference call this week, the only variables are who will replace Jacobs and when the transition will take place.

The way I read the article it was going to happen after football but with the new developments in Softball and Persons scandals it has been accelerated.

"After football" is quite telling that Gus goes with him with an LSU and / or Georgia loss.

I'd prefer to let him retire after the season if we don't plan on firing Gus.

If we fire him now it is news worthy and calling attention to AU During this scandal. We may be able to escape this as a background player right now PR wise

Don't like the way that article references BP

Nobody w/ AU is really questioning that hire from JJ, nor is there any hint that BP had anything to do with the situation w/ Person

Let him announce his retirement effective 12/31/17. Have him "assist" with finding replacement. Honor him for being a true Auburn man, bla bla bla. Make it look good for PR...

We've already had attention for that. Now the attention is dead because of all the other shite going on.

Firing Jacobs now brings up the attention again

He's been ready to retire for a bit now, I think he was just waiting to go out with something memorable, now it's going to be a negative.

Wouldn't be my choice, but I imagine they will handle the situation that way to make it look like everything is okay...

Auburn president Steven Leath refuted a report that stated the university and its board of trustees were planning to fire athletic director Jay Jacobs.

"The report is inaccurate," Leath said to Auburn Undercover. "Jay Jacobs is the athletics director, and I have had no such conference call with the Board of Trustees."

More to come.
