The ones that suffered through the darkest of all-times, the Barbee era, and didn't get to see us become #basketballschool

I'd like to start with my all time favorite:

-Chris Denson
highlights

-KT Harrell LINK

Look here as KT swings his junk in Bama's face

-Frankie Sullivan LINK

-Kenny Gabriel LINK

Honorable mention to Jordan Price and Shaq Johnson for showing good potential but getting mishandled and run off by Barbee.

Very special shout out to my two favorite players from the Lebo era, Frank "12 fingers" Tolbert and Korvotney Barber..

Lebo put together one good season. That team should’ve made the tourney. Barbee on the other hand.......

That guy put up just insane stats given the lack of ability to dribble with his off hand nor supporting casts

Shaq Johnson

He just could jump. He actually was not a very good bball player

He was a worse version of Malik Dunbar

If they used dunk contests as tie breakers, we would have been set

Bro, I went back and found a couple AU basketball threads I started on this board in 2014 and it was painful. Literally half the replies would be "lol we have a basketball team?". You would be the only one engaging in actual discussion unless marshallcotiger happened to show up. Them was dark days indeed, my friend

I lived in the same apartment building at Vot for one year. Hilarious times. Really cool dude.

I couldn't find highlights for any of the Lebo era guys which is why I stopped making an actual list at Kenny. Even Kenny didn't have a real highlight tape, just a dunk compilation.

But yes, those guys were fun to watch as well

I'd like to also say a very special thank you to the guys who were 100% Pearl but only were on bad teams. You guys were the foundation on which #BasketballSchool was built. We see y'all, y'all the real MVPs.

Cinmeon Bowers: LINK

Antoine Mason: LINK

Kareem Canty, I forgive you bro: LINK

Tyler Harris LINK

TJ Dunans and Ronnie Johnson get shoutouts too even though they were on an over .500 team

It’s funny looking back and seeing guys like Tyler Harris and Antoine Mason.. all in all, they’d be bench guys on today’s roster

Yup and they were very high usage players for us.. Harris was particularly awful imo.

Oh yeah, no doubt. Its insane how bad the roster was when Pearl took over. Had Barbee been in charge 1 more year Samford might have had more talent than us. We had to play Malcolm fricking Canada 22 mpg, think about that shite

Bruce is a miracle worker.

I won't lie I hated watching him, but just consider his alternatives at the time. At least Harris was competent. He might not have been particularly good, but I wouldn't say he was awful.

Not only that, but he had to play the 4 a lot for us that year and he is a natural point guard. Almost as insane as Cim playing the 1.

Played most of his career for Cliff Ellis. Didn't suffer near the emotional trauma that the guys under Barbee and even Lebo had to endure

Still my favorite AU basketball gif of all time (yes, even more than the Henderson epic)

How the hell this could have possibly transpired just amazes me

You know how everybody else in the world says "Kobe!" when they shoot a FT or are playing beer pong? For me for the las 6-7 years its been "Chris Denson!"
