If Gus had a good dual threat qb with this defense we might be going for our second

Championship in a row. Why he went away from that system is beyond me, but the last time we had a decent DT qb we put up over 600 yds and 44 points of offense on a great bama defense. His offense was so potent that Saban was complaining about player safety to the sec office. Now we are lucky to get 300 yds of offense against Tennessee.

Our running backs suck and the o line is woefully underprepared for SEC play.
It’s like you’re forgetting he had a DT QB plus Tre Mason, Greg Robinson, and Reese Dismukes in 2013.
We would maybe be a bit better but the problem isn’t just Stidham. It’s the whole offense.

What made his offense so great was all of the moving parts with the quick qb. The undisciplined lber always bit on the fake handoff and Marshall was gone.

I don’t know why our fan base can’t see this. The only thing holding us back in 2013 and 14 was defense. They were a wet paper sack.

IF my aunt had balls, she’d be my uncle.
Gus will lose his job IF we don’t make a bowl.

No he won’t.

I betcha he does
Wouldn’t you want a coach to lose their job for not making a bowl?

We LOST the 600/44 Iron Bowl you are referring to. Yes Nick Marshall was a wizard but look at our 2014 record with him. 8-5
If we would have played Fla or GA in the 2013 SECCG we may not have even won the league that year. People kept saying Gus got lucky and now, looking back, they were spot on. Gus was an excellent OC as far as scheme but we don't have the pieces for that scheme any longer as many here have mentioned.
I only wish a DT QB could solve our problems but this is not being able to see the forest for the trees. There's just too much to work on besides offense, DT QBs and play calling. Only if it was this easy.

Do you remember the defense in 2013 and 14, awful wouldn’t describe it.

Yep. No matter how well you train as a LB/DB for Gus's fakes, you never will be perfect. All Gus needs is 1/2 second of indecision and the play succeeds.
I saw UGA Saturday doing the hand-off and then the fake throwing motion.

It’s not what I want, it’s a 35 million + buyout looming over our heads.

Of course I do and they were not awful. That is being disingenuous. They stepped up big MANY times. See 2013 aTm game. 2013 IB. They were knocking Jameis' dick in the dirt and we had ALL the momentum to win that Natty until Kirby Whitlow ran that kickoff return back.

Miss st ran it against us just like Gus used to do and Fitzpatrick absolutely destroyed us. I thought Gus was going to have a revelatory moment when he was watching it.

You are acting like elite athletes like Nick Marshall are just a dime a dozen. There isn't a QB in college right now who can run zone read like NM could. Malik Willis is the closest we have and, for starters, he cant throw. Secondly, he cant read the one play you think is going to save this offense.
I'm not sure if you noticed, but college (and NFL) defenses have just started attacking the mesh point with the unblocked guy on that play. And it pretty much blows up the Zone read.

Once again, we went 8-5 with Nick and could have EASILY lost 4-5 games in 2013. This argument is ridiculous.

Exactly, I blame the 2013 on Gus to an extent and just terrible luck. Gus could’ve kept the hammer down in the first half and we could’ve scored another td because they couldn’t stop us. Then our kickoff guy gets injured and they return it for a td right through his gap.

I'm not sure what youre getting at because I too am saying the problems are far deeper than a DT QB.

Nick was special, but don’t get it twisted, he wasn’t a qb. He was a dB that was athletic enough to play the position. We all saw how he passed the ball and would go crazy when he would miss wide open receivers, but he had great vision on a read option. He knew when to hand it off or pull it almost every time.

No I was trying to tell OP that I disagree with the notion that we would be going for our 2nd Championship in a row with a good DT QB
