Coach Gus Malzahn constantly gets dinged because he can not develop quarterbacks and especially that he cant develop them out of high school.

Now this was the way of Nick Marshall who obviously only had one year at JC where he was terrible then came to the plains and improved from day 1.

Jarrett Stidham has transferred to Auburn from Baylor where he played it 10 games as a true freshman. he completed 75 of 109 attempts at Baylor while in his first year at Auburn completed 250 fo 370. He has obviously had more time here.

Now we enter the second season with him under Gus's tutelage. If this kid continues to improve and even gets in heisman talk at the end of the year, are we going to give Gus the credit for developing him or does that full fall on Art Briles?

I think we should determine this before hand to keep things from blowing up when this kid is a first rounder and wins some hardware on the plains

Get back to me

TIA

Marshall was actually a good JUCO QB.
Still, Malzahn made Marshall a SEC Champion caliber QB

If Stidham shows All American Heisman finalist production, Malzahn/Lindsey deserve credit

If Stidham has a repeat of last year, Malzahn doesn't get credit

I think we decided that he gets dinged for an inability to identify and sign HS QBs that develop into all conference starters.

I argue that he’s identifying exactly what he wants (raw, athletic athlete with big arm) but it’s not turning into anything on the field.

Im not trying to get technical here but we honestly did sign Jarrett out of high school.

The ability of Malzahn/Lashlee to identify and develop QB’s that fit the offense was my biggest issue
S.White-Gritty kid with limited arm talent
Kiehl Frazier- Kellen Mond plays exactly like him
JJ-Arm Talent with zero confidence
Tyler Queen- kid out of Georgia with 2 arm injuries should have never been signed.

He’s referring to Jarrett being a scout team QB for a HS the year he sat out.

Malzahn took a DB and had him put up more passing yards against the Alabama defense than anyone else in history

/thread

Just typing that made me realize how I’m more ticked off in retrospect about that dang loss than about The Loss Which Shall Not Be Named earlier that month

Baylor-----> Waco High school ---> Auburn Tigers

Its complicated but there are avenues to argue

Guy was so full of himself he wouldn't allow a guru quarterback coach to work with'em during the off season (on the players dime). Which is like free practice during a no contact period. It's not like Gus couldn't say hey work on this ... and not any of that other stuff!!!

In an 11--game season, he averaged 385 yds total offense per game (285 passing/100 rushing) and accounted for 37 TDs (18 passing, 19 rushing).

He also managed to turn the ball over 25 times (20 INTs and 5 fumbles).
