I mean, he wins relative to where he is at. A BCS bowl is max for Arky and UL. Neither place will never be a recruiting Mecca regardless of coach.

I just don't think he's the HR hire others do. There was a time I think he was one of the best around but I don't think that's the case anymore after his flameout at Arkansas. Also given his volatile history I doubt he would be here all that long

Bobby P would do great at Auburn. He has never had a job that can pull blue chip talent on name alone like AU can.

Do you think Gus is some ace recruiter??? Do you think 18-22 year old black males like him or think he's cool? Gus is a freaking weirdo. Auburn pulls elite talent, just need some assistants to hustle a little bit.

Hiring Petrino, keeping Steele and T-Will would absolutely be a homerun.

And u think Petrino is more likeable for that demographic? Also Gus is a very good recruiter even if many on here don't wanna believe it. Kids also love playing for him

I just think ppl are still so hung up on the what could have been back in 2003 with Petrino

More liked, no. More respected, probably. He has better name recognition than Malzahn, be it good or bad. Most of our notable recruits during his tenure can be credited to Garner, Muschamp, T-Rob, and D-Craig. I know Lashlee was responsible for Cam and Malzahn fought him on it, I think Rhett pulled Marshall also.

There aren't a lot of stories out there of players professing their love for Malzahn or even mentioning him at all. I think he has a strange distance from the players.

Weird guy that sits and draws plays until 3 in the morning. That gimmick is cool and cute when the offense is booming, but not so much the past 3 years.

there's absolutely no way you would no who is or isn't more respected by recruits. I would say though that a guy that has coached in 3 SEC titles, 2 national championships and has a Heisman winner probably has plenty of respect. Malzahn has tapered off badly past few seasons but you can't just handwave all of his accomplishments away because you don't like him

Lashlee was a GA in 2010, WTH are you talking about

They both wanted him

I think you just really hate Malzahn

We are just gonna have to agree to disagree on Petrino. I think his best days are past him and don't see him as much of an upgrade over Malzahn

My bad on the Lashlee-Cam deal. Either Trooper or Luper were his primary recruiter.

Agree to disagree, my Malzahn hate is strong. I am almost willing to soapbox for any coach against Gus. I honestly hope we could do better than Petrino if the job opens, but Chizik and Malzahn were our last two hires. So that "hope" is probably just going to stay "hope".

It was Chizik who originally didn't want Cam in his book

Luper found him, Gus liked him Chiz needed to be convinced

Thanks for clearing that up. I had trouble finding the story online (because it didn't exist) and mixed up coaches.

IMO Petrino's on the verge of burnout. With our luck, he'd be in DGAF mode by his 2nd or 3rd season, if not sooner.

So some of you geniuses who want JJ and Malzahn fired want Bobby Patrino? Thats a smart choice.

Im sure Bobby was bring back respect to the program since JJ has burned it down. His fantastic reputation and great control of his teams would be exactly what we need

I didn't start this as an opinion piece. Just an observation of how things are setting up, and the crush some of our suits have for Bobby. I disagree with some of you though. I don't think he is burnt. He has made some mistakes, but at 56, he is about to hit a stride.

Will Bobby Petrino finally be our coach? That buyout is now manageable, and will be looking to bounce since his AD is gone. Would automatically be the #2 coach in the SEC.

I'm not sure I'd want him now. He seems to lay a giant egg in the big games. Clemson, FSU and others as of late he's taken a beating. He's been clean lately but I think it would be a HUGE PR nightmare.

Not only that, they want Tubs to be his boss - again

Cmon, AU, let's get the Colonial Bank private jet out of receivership and have David Housel fly into the Clark County Airport under the cover of darkness and get this deal done!!!
