Some news from Tampa: Gus Malzahn will call the plays for Auburn's offense during the Outback Bowl, as he has all season.

But he and new offensive coordinator Chad Morris are "still working through some things about how it’s going to go down" next season:

Gus enjoys and will call the plays. If we have to go through more seasons speculating who is actually calling plays I will pray for a defensive coach to be our next HC. That’s been ridiculous for years.

OP's link

... Gus Malzahn said he "made a mistake" when he succumbed to internal pressure and gave up offensive play-calling duties in 2016

eta: The more things change the more they remain the same.

I need a timeline of when Gus called the plays and when he didn’t. I can’t keep up with if we are good when he does or not.

Pretty sure Chip called plays in 2017, our best offensive season since Gus first year

2017 and 2014 were pretty comparable until KJ went down at the end of the iron bowl but I guess so. People seem to forget the Georgia egg in 2014 because of how we played in the iron bowl that year.

I will always remember the 2014 game as the game where we went in to Tuscaloosa with the worst defense in the country, and Nick Marshall put the team on his back and almost won the game himself.

I'm fine with Gus calling the plays if all the blame is laid at his feet when shite goes awry

Sharing play calling duties next year will be a shite show going on past results.

In 2016 we had a shitty start including Clemson.

About three or four games into the season, Gus handed the duties to Lashlee.

We went on a tear against weak defenses and Lashlee was the answer!

Lost to good teams late and Gus be meddling.

Same for 2018 really.

Some of you act like the play caller is actually drawing plays in the dirt or something. They're plays that are situational on a sheet or a playbook.

Gus gets frustrating to watch because he is setting tendencies. First down run 100 times in a row is so that in the bama game he can throw a screen on first down and make everyone go, "huh?"

I just hope that Chad Morris will start watering the route trees so that maybe by next fall, the route tree branches will flourish.

Only at Auburn is this kind of announcement necessary

8-9 years ago Gus and Chad were two of the hottest offensive minds in college football and now they share the same sideline, time to bring back the magic.
