I'm wondering if Gus has already decided on one, but didn't announce it for fear one of them would transfer. My money is on Nix being the starter.

I have to assume he has a good idea (like always, I suspect).

My natural inclination is that it will be Gatewood. I also assume that if it is a dead heat or even a very slight Nix lead it'll be Gatewood. My bet is that he's giving Nix as much time as possible to win it outright and thinks that Nix will ultimately claim the job at some point regardless.

I don't see Gus starting a true freshman in first game of a season that means so much to everybody. He's got to prove that he is a competent coach and at least Gatewood has the tools to run his offense the way it has been successful in the past. I could be wrong, but I just don't see Nix starting.

I think it will be Gatewood myself. He is bigger and probably more ready physically right now. Plus he has a year in the system. I think Gus can run power with Gatewood and wont be able to do that with Nix. Id like to see him be successful. That power run game is very consistent if you have a QB to run it

We'll see....honestly, we don't really know what we have with either them. Gatewood has been good off the bench, Nix was stelllar in HS but until we see what they do in a big game atmosphere, we don't know who is better.

Fake news
He definitely tweeked his knee, but I think him missing the next game was simply precautionary. They essentially used that week for treatment and rest because of the opponent.

We’re talking about 2013, Lanier. Jeremy Johnson’s first career start came against Western Carolina.

ETA: Yes, he also started the first half of Arkansas game in 2014 after Nick Marshall was popped with weed. But there was a start before then.
