Also people overrate how good of a shooter these guys need to be going into the NBA. They’ll teach him how to shoot better when he gets there.

I'm sure they will help him a lot and 2-3 years into his NBA career he will be dong quite well. My point is you don't expect to have to do that with a lottery pick.

I completely disagree. Most of those guys are drafted based on potential. That’s why you see so many underclassmen go early. Cam Reddish for example shot it horrible in college and he’s slowly getting better now. They’ll develop faster when they’re only worrying about playing basketball and not everything else that comes with going to college.

Just look at Chuma. He was just out of the lottery knowing full well he wouldn’t play this year.

Just remember, last year at this time we were ranked #16, lost to MS St and then was unranked.

So let’s not worry so soon. Basketball is such a long season w many opportunities to get on a roll.
This isn’t like football.

You sure? Guys like who I listed below are top ~15 picks every year

Here are some quotes from tRinger's NBA Draft guide last year

Ja Morant
quote:

Athletic wonder and clever playmaker who needs to develop his jump shot and curb turnovers to unlock his true star potential

Cam Reddish
quote:

Polarizing prospect who looks the part of a future star scorer, but his production leaves much to be desired....he’s shot low 30 percent from 3 throughout his career.

Sekou Doumbouya
quote:

Unpolished physical specimen with the potential versatility at the forward spots to be a mismatch nightmare if his skills continue to develop....
-Poor defensive fundamentals
-Poor decision-maker who wears blinders
-Fumbles the ball often—and that’s on straight-line drives
-Untamed jump shot

Okoro reminds me of Jaylen Brown as far as size and two way versatility goes. Jaylen learned to shoot in Boston and he went #3. Easy to say that Okoro will be a lottery guy.

Chuma's O game was light years ahead of Okoro. Okoro may be a first round pick. Unless you are a rim protector, you must be able to put the ball in the basket in that league if you want any kind of career.

I was looking at a mock and they likened Okoro to a 2018 76er pick who they said has had very little impact yet.

Don't get me wrong. I am pulling for him. I just think another year developing his O game would help him tremendously financially.

Chuma was year(s) away from being a contributor due to the injury. That was his point

Chuma was almost a lotto pick despite having a torn ACL. That said, Chuma is not the athlete nor does he have the defensive upside as Okoro.

Okoro is #199 in eFG% and #115 in 2FG%. He puts the ball in the bucket.

I assume you mean #16 pick Zhaire Smith. Okoro is effectively a bigger (6'5 225 v 6'3 200) Smith with similar athleticsm and skills. As for the 'little impact' part, you may not realize Smith was the guy who almost died his rookie year form a freak allergic reaction. You know, after he broke his foot and got surgery.

Considering there is an additional year of earnings by leaving early, the difference between #10 & #20 picks is only about $1mil

While staying a year doesn't guarantee even moving up while accepting injury risk all while making no $

Okoro is averaging more PPG than Chuma did and has a higher 2pt %. Chuma was a better 3 pt shooter. Okoro is a better defender and athlete. The NBA can teach Okoro to shoot better. Okoro is not “maybe a first round pick”. He’s being projected as a lottery pick in almost every mock draft out there. Okoro also is a year younger and isn’t injured.

I mean I’d love to have him back but I think there’s about zero chance of that happening.

Can someone create an Okoro draft discussion thread? Asking for a friend.

Would be a worthwhile thread with numerous pages going from now til the Draft in June.

I saw that...it certainly helps us, but UVA looks like a shell of last year's team.

That's brutal playing a game Saturday and having only a day off.
