Everything is on the line. Iron Bowl 2017

Once again we are down to this game and everything being on the line for both teams. We will need another effort like last week to beat those guys. They are good at every position and have depth like no other program
The main thing that worries me about this match up is Hurts. HIs mobility could do some damage to us. We have been very good against the run and our pass defense has been solid as well. Other than Miss State, we have not really faced a good mobile QB all season. I guess you could say the kid from Clemson is but he didnt run that much against us.
Hurts has a great head on his shoulders and knows when to tuck it and run. Doesn't make a lot of mistakes and lets the guys around him do their jobs. I look for him to scramble a lot against us. Not sure how we will defend him. Either a spy or just stack it up in the middle.
I fully expect a 2013 type of day in Auburn and hopefully we will be up to it. Stidham is going to need to have the game of his career and not get happy feet when the pressure comes.
If I had to say it today, Id put Bama as a 6 or 7 point favorite but being in Auburn will help with some of that.

Auburn quarterback @Jarrett_Stidham has completed at least 1 pass of 50-plus yards in 8 straight games. Sean White never had a pass of 50 yards in 2 seasons as starter. Stidham completing 67.8 percent of his passes.

White was... okay. Stidham might be playing on Sundays in a couple years.

We are gonna shock the world...

He could. He has a lot of work to do first though.
Personally, I do not think Stidham reads the field well. If his receiver is open, he can certainly hit the guy but he still misses a lot of reads and a ton of wide open guys. Meaning he does not see them.
He has the size. If he can get the pocket presence, he can play in the NFL

Jalen Hurts is the least of my concern in this game. Their skill position players make him look good.
Much like UGA, Alabama hasn't played in a truly difficult environment all year and they haven't particularly been challenged outside of State. We'll see how they respond when they get punched in the mouth

I agree Rig but they have a lot of experience. And those guys have played in tough places. Its not new overall.
A scrambling QB could keep us from being so aggressive on defense which is where we are at our best

Now let's see if he can do it against superior competition.

On defense...
Spy Jalen Hurts
Double Calvin Ridley (a lot of the time)
Load the box and force them to throw
When they are forced to throw, take away everything short
On offense...
Throw the deep ball
Expose the middle of their defense with the run
Control the clock
See how healthy Minkah Fitzpatrick really is
Throw screens to slow down their pass rush
Don’t turn the ball over
Don’t commit penalties
Don’t call a stupid trick play when you have momentum

Alabama's D is banged up.
We're going to have to play a lot of zone to account for Hurts running. We're not great in zone.
I'm thinking a 55-44 game like 2014.
I say 37-31, Auburn. Both running games are neutralized, Stidham outplays Hurts.
Buck Fama, WDE!

I'm more worried about their stable of running backs.
I think both teams score on one another a good bit

To me this is a mistake. When you see our success against uga on film regarding run D...our DL beat them up front. However, the plays were often cleaned up by LB's and Safties flowing quickly to the ball. Hurts and his ability to run requires those guys to freeze 1 second. That is huge in this game. It helps the OL to create angles for blocking. Think what our OL looked like with NM at QB vs White.

Spy Jalen Hurts
This will be the most difficult thing to do. He makes me nervous. Even though he’s struggled at times, he is really good in the clutch. I don’t want the ball in his hands if the game is on the line.

We will have to play some zone cause Hurts can run, but Hurts is not the best at putting the ball in tight windows either. Most of their big pass plays come off him scrambling and someone gets wide open.

Hurts will scramble for yards. The key is stopping everyone else. He will get 14-21 points.

Bama road games against MSU and TAMU give me a lot of hope. Glad we are at home. We got this. I am very confident.

Punter needs to have his shite together. Same with KO coverage team.

Which QB has Bama played that throws as well as Stidham? This will be the difference in the game.

Whichever team runs the ball better will win this game.. barring a game full of turnovers and penalties, which you wouldn't expect with so much on the line.

Hurts can lead a game winning or tying drive. We haven’t seen Stidham do that yet.
