The downtown merchants have a lot of pull with the council.
They have made, and are going to make even more of a killing from the continued migration of all college students to within walking distance of downtown.
They don't GAF and/or didn't have the foresight to understand that everything south of shug jordan @ s college will be in very bad shape in 10 years.
The local folks who are probably small town at heart have seen big dollar signs and can't resist.
