Got a feeling Gustav reached out to Briles due to his connection with his dad and was turned down. Nothing to back that up, just a hunch.

No. Just no.

Gus did the best thing for this situation. He bet on himself and hired an assistant. If he survives this maybe later he will try to give the offense over to an up and coming OC. But for now im good with him calling the shots on O.

I’ll take Gus calling his plays over those guys

If he is truly successful next year calling his own plays then I hope he never gives the offense to an OC ever again

IMO the same issue that has cropped up in the past will occur again next season...Gus will take a while to trust his players leading to early struggles and possibly loses. The heat will crank up on him.

As the heat cranks up the grind of the season will occur and Gus won't have time to dedicate to game planning due to his other responsibilities and we will have a odd offensive plan or two mixed in late against NFL talented D's. The heat will be scorching.

I believe Gus is capable of calling the plays at a high level and maximizing the O, but I am less convinced he can do that and run Auburn's football team.

If Gus is calling plays, why do we need an OC?

When Gus unleashes his OC demon beast and not afraid, he is one of the best offensive minds in CFB.

When he overthinks and plays conservatively, he is just a bad HS coach.

Anybody who would be okay with any Briles at AU should be ashamed of themselves. Probably the same ones who wanted Freeze

Do you have any ideas that aren't just totally fricking stupid? I'm seriously starting to get concerned with your decision making.

Is the new QB coach someone that could get more out of the talent we have or the talent coming in than we have seen in the past?

I think gus will do better calling the plays. I wish he would hire someone who could help recruit o-linemen and develop QBs.

Its amazing how we forgot what our offense was like in 2015 and 2016.

Do you guys not remember the comments how DCs could call our plays, and that we only throw deep balls, when we get into a rhythm of big plays?

The bowl game is not a gauge of how succesfull we will be under the 'old' Gus.

He still doesn't have intermediate pass plays.
Will he still not use the TE in pass plays?
He still does his trick plays (so what if they worked against a weak Purdue D. Lets see how it works against SEC Defenses).
He still will only use one RB 90% of the time.
Will he develop QBs he recruits? So far only transfers and JC QBs seem to work for him.

So are we really glad he is calling plays?
Will it return us to a 10+ win team?

I have no confidence this one change on offense will.

He wore Lutz and Usomah out. We just don't have a reliable one on the roster right now.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Shenker gets used next year.
