Can we go back to no politics on this board?

The problem with discussing politics isn’t a political problem. It’s that the anonymity of this board can hinder posters from understanding each other on a fundamental human level. We’re to a point where people are unable or unwilling to disassociate someone’s politics from literally anything they post on here. That’s got to stop. We deserve better

The rule (guideline?) isn’t to suppress anyone’s viewpoint. It’s to preserve the other discussions that we have on here that make this board a truly great place to interact with other Auburn fans.

I’m tired of the divisive bullshite here. It’s pervasive enough in our everyday lives. There’s other outlets on this website to articulate your thoughts and feelings on the world around Auburn Sports. This board just isn’t one of them.

This isn’t directed at anyone. This isn’t motivated by anything unique to today. I’d just like to keep the drama limited to Gus’s bitch tits, QB height, contract buyouts, and Jordan Hare renovations

The biggest election of our lifetime. Not surprised at the political tension

I’m with you, but it’s the only thing going on right now. There’s zero sports.

No one in our lifetime has ever seen entire sports leagues cancelled, and it’s tied to politics.

Time to figure where you stand and draw a line.

That’s fine, but not here. There’s other, more appropriate, places to do that.

I’m not a mod. They already deleted part of that thread. And that’s not the point. Let’s get away from the granular and focus on the bigger picture here.

I’m calling on us to be our own mods. It’s not hard not diffuse situations. It’s not hard to read something you don’t like and move on from it. Nobody is a hero for anonymously owning the idiot.

I blame Lanier for starting those divisive threads.

In the past we took a hardline stance against discussions that veered into really anything that wasn’t related to Auburn University with specific attention placed on political discussions, but I made the call that given the circumstances and the overlap of certain issues with the ability of Auburn to play the sports we all love to watch, that conversation of these issues could persist as long as we could relate them to Auburn in some form or fashion and the dialogue remained civil. This was partially done because we really don’t have high volumes of posts on this board; so I figured it wouldn’t be difficult to moderate, and everyone here has traditionally been very cordial, so I expected a healthy dialogue might evolve.

However, I’m not sure what possessed me to think that because discussing politics online always ends up in a heated place even during normal times, and in today’s climate we are approaching a state where there are always hardline stances with limited capacity for nuance on any issue. Either way, this is a sports message board; and I started a discussion on the admin forum asking for us to establish a firm set of rules because some of these issues are caused by the ambiguity of the rules/guidelines we impose here.

In the interim while that’s being hashed out, I think it’s appropriate to say any commentary on COVID that isn’t directly relevant to the scheduling of Auburn athletic events, and any political discussion meeting that same criteria, can be assumed off limits on this board. Exceptions can be made for threads marked OT, but those threads should be limited in scope to sympathy threads, with ellitor’s thread being the motivation for this type of exception. There is always the O-T Lounge(s) and Political Talk for those types of discussions if people here want to dive in.

There is always the opportunity for a thread to go awry. It’s unrealistic to expect mommy and daddy to separate us every time we’re provoked. You guys can’t monitor every minute of this board.

This is not a rant against moderators. This is a request for the board to step up and take ownership of this space. Posters ultimately dictate what goes on here and we’ve regulated this board with minimal moderation for a very long time. I want to see that continue. And I want to see Lanier punished for the crimes mentioned in this thread. It’s past time.

“Inside zone after every first down” is an unconscious bias that Gus has oppressed me with for years.

I tried to tell you all god dammit. I am somewhat offended that Jones gets to be the one to make a damn rule around here. He isnt anything but a short little slant e. frick it. I admit it. I like him and will obey his rule. I actually have been. Dont like the topic at all. Not that I dont have a opinion or that I cant discuss it, it just seems to always go in the toilet. Rig can frick off though. And all you low swingers, stay away from my wife.

Its a hard topic for anyone to have a reasonable discussion anytime, especially right now. People are very emotional about it and people here have shows that their emotions guide them. We see it with the football posts.

IF any of you want to recommend a new grill, Im all ears. My 10 year old Weber has about fallen apart. Going to put some treatment on my deck next weekend and when I take the grill off the deck to put the treatment down, it wont be returning. Thinking about a Weber Genesis and maybe even getting a egg but I dont have a lot of knowledge about them.

Well maybe you shouldn’t start threads about Gus’ offense.

I love the Egg. I believe it’s worth the price based on the lifetime warranty it has and the versatility. That or Komodo Joe and you got a grill for life. If you got any questions about it let me know.
