Nick - $26,900,000
Mark Stoops - 14,765,625
McElwain $12,916,000
Smart - $10,800,000
Sumlin $10,416,667
Ogeron $8,791,667
Botch Jones $8,125,000
Gus $6,898,958
Bret $5,874,227
USA TODAY
When reviewing, Gus' buyout it is reasonable. Some will still complain about when we pull the trigger.
Others Dabe, 40 million, Harbaugh $20,555,556, Meyer $21,345,100... AND Jimbo Fisher - $39,312,500 (INSANE IMHO)

I believe that Nick has no buyout if he leaves but the school does have a buyout if they decide to fire him.

Yes, all these buyouts are the money guaranteed the HC if he is terminated without cause (i.e., for losing too much).
I'd be more interested to see what the buyouts for the HC leaving of his own volition. As stated above, Saban's is $0, and has been since he was hired in 2007, which was why I thought Bama was making a mistake back then, given his history.
Wish I'd been right

Jimbo Fisher also technically has no buyout, but he is responsible for the remaining salary of all assistant coaches not retained
Supposedly that is some ~$10-$15mil

How is Mark Stoops buyout so high?

His extension has him signed through 2022
The real key for all these buyouts are offset language. If buyout payments are offset by any income earned, it could be drastically reduced.
For example, Jimbo Fisher would be hired by someone. So if he has offset language and Auburn hired him for $4mil/year, FSU's buyout ends up buying only about $10mil

I realize it is insane, but it is effectively the equivalent of a corporate poison pill for fire happy fans/alumni
Jimbo Fisher turned a Bobby Bowden dumpster fire farewell around to a Nat'l Championship, return to ACC powerhouse and consistent success
Despite all that, a bad start w/ injured starting QB has fans/alumni talking about potential firing him + FSU sites saying his process is broken
Ya it is just talk and they wouldn't actually fire Jimbo. What happens if he has 10 Wins in 18 & 19 though? FSU starts to feel the pressure of UGA with Mark Richt despite Jimbo having actually won
