I really think Auburn could do better than Freeze. Need a lights out recruiter and some great coordinators. I don't know who any of those will be but it's what they should aim for

Do you know what Freeze would have here that he didn't have at Ole Miss? A football institution that has millions in resources and backing. Gus Malzahn had the backing to field some of the highest paid coordinators and position coaches in the country. That doesn't exist at Ole Miss. We have the backing to spend on recruiting, that only barely existed at Ole Miss (and really it was only there for 1-2 seasons for Freeze).

Saying that Hugh didn't have the backing at Ole Miss is slightly exaggerated. He literally had the backing of them throughout the entire NCAA Investigation until it came out that he was using a university issued phone to get some happy endings on the road.

Part of the financial backing issues might've been related to the fact that at the time he was the 3rd highest paid coach in the conference (starting in 2015) while his total assistant pool was next to last in the league. That could be just misguided-ness on Ross Bjork's part (which wouldn't be the first time that dumbass made some misguided decisions...hello fully guaranteed Jimbo contract).

quote:

From reading your posts, you also underestimate what he accomplished over those 2-3 seasons at Ole Miss when things were humming before the scandal. He gave the SEC a lot of problems and won against a lot of really good teams. When he did lose, they were generally close games. Again, the resources at Auburn FAR outweigh what he had access to when he was doing all that at Ole Miss.

No denying that he gave the SEC fits, but he also had some real Gus-like games. They lost to a 7-6 Arky team 30-0 in 2014, along with the 42-3 loss to TCU in the Peach Bowl. In 2015, they lost by 28 to Florida, 13 to Memphis(!!!), and by 1 to Arkansas in a multi-OT game (the one with that ridiculous lateral play IIRC).

In 2016, they started the season ranked 11th, and other than a 5 point loss to Bama, their season fell apart quickly, ending with a 35 point loss to State at home.

I'm not saying that he's better or worse than Gus, but there are a ton of similarities between the two.

Honestly, given his history, he's at the PERFECT school for him at Liberty. Plus, he's with one of the most Jesus-like leaders he knows. Why would he want to leave that?

Wonder how much of that is Prime's doing?

That gets me excited. What if Prime really wants the job bad? Oh my.

I draw a hard line when folks very publicly proclaim themselves followers of Jesus but ignore everything he actually stood for...

Hugh Freeze is sanctimoniously ignorant in the worst possible way.

Not that it matters to anyone, but if he is allowed anywhere near this program-I will be out until he's gone.

The loudest Christians are usually the ones who are the most un-Christian like.

Lots of projection.

Most comments re Prime (who is unqualified), Freeze, etc. are coming from a place of fear. It's like listening to someone who's been the victim of spousal abuse.

I think that's disingenuous. On an equal and opposite take, I could lump anyone wanting Prime or Freeze into the reality TV, 3 second attention span, microwave results, instant gratification, folks that made Kim Kardashian a household name.

Questioning someone's work experience or previous results when hiring for a job is absolutely pertinent & expected during the hiring process. Claiming it comes from "fear" I guess is true, because if I hired a guy at my job and didn't question his experience level, he's going to kill people.

Freeze's results (outside of his bought recruits) are just lukewarm. We know exactly what we'll get, because we had it already. Except with Malzahn, he ran a clean program. Freeze was a cheater, wrapped in the false cloak of religion.

Prime just has an incomplete body of work. Too difficult to assess whether his limited recent success will translate this quickly to a larger program. He bought one recruit and is 16-5 as a coach.

I don't understand anyone who cannot see the question marks or the short comings of these two coaches.

I'd shoot for Aranda and Kiffin. Make them both turn me down and then create a list of my back ups.

Or just hire Lashlee, because Auburn.

I’ll bite…Pittman vs Prime…years of experience coaching in a college program? Years of SEC experience?

You are wasting your time. The Sanders crowd does not subscribe to logic, or reason. You can write down everything Sanders has accomplished as a coach on a postage stamp.

We actually have posters now saying that if we don't consider Sanders, we shouldn't consider a career coordinator as HC. Wonder if UGA and Oklahoma has fans who think like that?

When Bama players/alums are complaining about how basic their offense is this year, you know the guy ain't long for that place.

And that is? Former HC at Penn State. Former HC for the Texans. Current OC under Saban. Current coach of a Heisman winner.

With Deion I think back to the 1989 Sugar Bowl
when He intercepted Slack with 5 seconds remaining in the game then ran to the Auburn sidelines and taunted the entire team.
Let him wait on Florida State.

Are you just shot-gunning out random names at this point, in hopes of naming the next coach correctly by naming every possibility?
