Well the first cancellation was obvious. When your AHC is arrested by the feds in the morning, you don't have a media session in the afternoon

Maybe he was waiting as long as he could to release the names of the two players.. I wouldn't think they would practice, would they?

I am not sure what he can say other than expressing disappointment at the situation.

He can emphasize his lack of knowledge, which the media will will attack, for not keeping on top of all things basketball.

I hope he survives this as this is the first time people have been excited about basketball since Ellis/Porter days.

As of right now the NCAA hasn't ruled on their eligibility so they should be able to practice.

Typically eligibility only affects ability to play in games

Will he wear a sweater vest and say he is looking forward to a good month of practice after every question?

Release was the wrong word to use on my part. He could say something to the effect of "player1 and player2 will not be practicing with the team for reasons I can not discuss at this time" or something like that. Otherwise, we'll be able to tell who it is, by who isn't out there during practice.

This is an unusual case, so i wasn't sure. Money seems to have changed hands between a coach and families. I wonder if we should expect two players to be ruled ineligible tomorrow?

Pretty sure NCAA doesn't care about practice until rule is made. Issue becomes if you play them before ruling you are subject to forfeit retroactively

Another way to think about it is.. do you think those players could be suspended by Pearl?

No and given how FBI framed this, they shouldn't be. FBI really tried to drive home that Person abused their trust, took advantage of young kids + families and deceived them into what the deals were.

Punishing the players would be a PR nightmare. It isn't even clear if the NCAA would go down that road even w their rules

On timing, I wonder if Chuck not getting the UAB job made him think he wouldn't become a head coach. Starts within months of not being chosen

He seems to indicate in FBI filings he plans on staying at Auburn and making this a thing of funneling players. No reason to think he is at AU for the long haul if he is ending up a HC
