Auburn's offensive line took 'step back' vs. Arkansas, expects to 'shoot up like a rocket'

Auburn's offensive line took "a step back" in the team's win against Arkansas last weekend, but the Tigers are confident the unit will soon see its play rapidly improve.

"It just takes time on offense," left tackle Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. said. "You never know. It might be our next game. And from there, we'll just shoot up like a rocket. We're just doing what we can right now and getting better every day."

quote:

The Tigers did not do that in last week's 34-3 win against the Razorbacks, when they allowed nine negative plays and a season-high four sacks while the offense was held to a paltry 91 yards rushing and a 3.5-yard sack-adjusted rushing average.

quote:

Part of those struggles were attributed to the team breaking in a first-time starter at center in Nick Brahms, despite the fact coaches were pleased with Brahms' performance and Wanogho said he was one of the highest-graded offensive linemen against Arkansas. It was enough to earn Brahms a second consecutive start this weekend against Southern Miss, when No. 10 Auburn (3-1) hosts the Golden Eagles (2-1) on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

quote:

The hope is that maintaining continuity along the line -- and not just at center, as the Tigers are unlikely to make other changes up front this week -- will help advance the unit's progress after a third straight season with a slow start from that unit.

quote:

"We are starting to jell more," Driscoll said. "I know it's hard to see from a statistical standpoint, but you know, even just on my side me and Mike (Horton) have become more confident just playing next to each other, and as days go on, we'll all become more comfortable with Nick. He did a tremendous job Game 1, and as we build that chemistry we're more bound to click soon and kind of really have this offense explode because Coach Lindsey and Coach Malzahn will really have us in a position to succeed as they have in the past.

To be fair, Chief had been shutting down Gus' Mickey Mouse offense for nearly a decade now. Even the great Cam Newton only got 24 points on him. (Mostly due to the best punting I've ever seen in my life from LSU. Those assholes flipped the field with every punt.)

So Brannigan says points and you post yards.

Hell, Brannigan may be wrong, but I ain't got the energy or desire right now to go out and look to prove it.

But you sure as hell didn't either.

left tackle Prince Tega Wanogho Jr.

Was very worried about him preseason. Seems he has progressed quite a bit from last year. Either that or the middle of our line has regressed so much it makes him look good. Either way can't remember too many times where he has caused negative plays for the offense

Not last Saturday. But it sure would be nice to have 400+ yards again.

On Stidham's TD run last week, he got a spin move put on him that made him look pretty bad. Boobie also didn't know who to block and let the LB run right past him.

No wonder Stidham was pissed even after scoring. Guys just need to play better.

The Olinemen need to quit talking, and actually do something. The past 2 weeks have been embarrassing.

So you're saying Gus's play-calling in the red zone sucked even when Cam Newton was QB?

Did you miss the part about LSU putting on the greatest display of punting we’ve ever seen? We had five drives start from the 10 or in, and 3 start from the 2 or in. It was insane.

So since LSU has a great punter, Gus's offense hasn't struggle in the redzone since 2014.

That kind of logic is water-tight.
