re: Auburn May Have Worst Offense in Footbsll
Stidham may have hurt his draft stock by coming to Auburn, but landing at New England isn’t a bad at all. He’ll get a chance to learn under one of the best QBs of all time. It may even translate into a prolonged career where he makes millions more than he would have.

I mean whatever it is that has been trotted out for a few years now has been terrible. I'm pretty sure even Gus knows that.

Inconsistent would be the most accurate description. At times it will look remarkable and then turn around and look pedestrian. Not just week to week but quarter to quarter.

Michael Lombardi is a functioning retard.

Funny thing is that when he was with the Browns, they were talking about hiring Malzahn.

Story from 2013, updated Jan. 1 2014
quote:

The Browns are very interested in Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and Vanderbilt coach James Franklin for their head coaching vacancy, and are expected to hire fired Lions coach Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator, league sources have told CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora.

quote:

All are clients of super-agent Jimmy Sexton, who also represents Browns candidate Josh McDaniels, the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots whom the Browns have received permission to interview. Sexton has strong ties to Browns general manager Mike Lombardi dating back to Lombardi's first stint with the Browns in the early 1990s.

Maybe Sexton was just using Lombardi for his own clients.

Tommy Tuberville reacts to analyst who says Auburn ‘might be one of the worst offenses in football’

quote:

Tommy Tuberville said the harsh criticism by one analyst that Auburn “might be one of the worst offenses in football” is unfair

quote:

During the podcast, Lombardi, a former NFL executive, took aim at the New England Patriots drafting former Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the fourth round.

“Jarrett Stidham, the kid from Auburn. Here’s this kid, he was a five-star, four-star kid at Baylor with Art Briles, okay? They have the absolute fiasco that happens there and then he decides to leave Baylor and goes to Auburn,” Lombardi said, per Saturday Down South. “Really if the kid was smart, he would have stayed at Baylor with Matt Rhule. Because if he plays with Matt Rhule at Baylor, he’s probably going to throw. He probably would have been a first or second-round pick. He’s easily better than Daniel Jones if he plays in an offense that would have highlighted what he can do.”

quote:

Lombardi then went after Gus Malzahn’s offense.

“That offense at Auburn, I’m not sure what the hell it is,” Lombardi said. “They run power, they run unbalanced… But anyway, that offense, seriously, might be one of the worst offenses in football, so you can’t evaluate a quarterback in it, or they can’t train a quarterback, that’s the other thing. (Gus Malzahn) can’t train them.”

quote:

On Monday, Tuberville took exception.

“How many championships has that guy won?” Tuberville said. “Gus is a good football coach. It all goes back to the assistants coaching their positions. Gus had a problem at coaching quarterback simply because he lost his quarterbacks coach a couple of years ago and bringing in a new quarterbacks coach sometimes doesn’t work.”

quote:

“That’s unfair to say about Gus. He’s had very potent offenses over the year,” Tuberville said. “Jarrett Stidham didn’t improve. Someone has to take the blame for that. Could’ve been Jarrett Stidham. Could’ve been coaching. Could’ve been scheme, but that’s water underneath the bridge. It is important everyone get on the same page for the season.”

We led the SEC in scoring in 2017.

It's like some of our fans quit watching after the Mercer game that year.

51 points, 482 yards vs Mizzou
42 points, 511 yards vs MSU
44 points, 561 yards vs Ole Miss
52 points, 629 yards vs Arky
35 points, 496 yards vs TAMU
40 points, 488 yards vs UGa
26 points, 408 yards vs Bama

Yeah, we stunk it up vs Clemson, and went in the tank in the 2nd half against LSU and UGa in the SECCG. But calling that kind of year 'putrid' is ludicrous.
