You didn’t miss anything, I was wrong. I don’t know why I remembered it that way, obviously the team did but I for some reason I thought he was a larger part of the problem. Dead wrong.

2014 should have been a great year but there were just too many mistakes on the field. Too many turnovers at bad times in big games, and penalties killing drives. If you look the stats it doesn't look like a dropoff from 2013, the defense was actually better in 2014.

Examples: Miss St, 2 turnovers on the first 2 plays to lead to easy Tds.
Butt fumble and fumble at the goal line against A&M
Alabama, first play of the game Roc Thomas doesn't catch the pass behind the line of scrimmage.

2013 Defense Passing Yards: 258.6 Rushing Yards 162.1 Total Yards 420.7
Gave up just under 3 TD's a game 2.8 per game.

2014 Defense Passing Yards: 230.1 Rushing Yards 168.8 Total Yards 398.8
Gave up just over 3 TD's a game 3.4 per game.

When you consider the 2013 finished with bama, Mizzou and FSU while the 2014 squad finished with bama and Wisconsin it's hard to say they stats in 2014 were better. In the most important category they were significantly worse.

So what are we saying caused the decline in 2014? OL and RB? Defense didn’t drop off that much.

Lol what? The 2014 Auburn defense was possibly our worst defense of all time. Did you watch us that year at all?

I believe the D drop was greater than people are suggesting...stats don't tell the entire story. In many ways the 2014 squad had an easier schedule.

I do believe the biggest difference between 2013 and 2014 was the OL and the inability to move the ball in short yardage or red zone situations on the ground.

I know we like to pretend like 2012 didn't happen, but they were the worst.

AU Defense: Yards Per Play Allowed
2009 5.15
2010 5.36
2011 5.73
2012 5.99
2013 5.96
2014 5.67
2015 5.37
2016 5.07
2017 4.67
2018 5.15

To put that in perspective, the 2013 defense gave up on average 1.08 inches less per offensive snap than the 2012 defense...

Likely won't know until after spring practices.

You may have been one of the many fans who quit watching the last 6 games after the halftime show, but that 2012 D was worse than its stats. Thankfully the opposing coaches showed them mercy. They literally only played 3 games (in minutes) the last 6 cause teams didn't need to actively try to move the ball to win by 50.
