The President of Purdue University has held in-state tuition to under 10K a year for the last 7 years.

Freakonomics did an episode with this guy. He would be at the top of most school’s wishlist for president. But at 70 I don’t think he’s on the move from his home state

Great article. Would love it if Auburn could find someone like that. But he's a rare creature :^)

Wish they would do something about out-of-state tuition

Are his methods and ideas secret?

Why can't others just copy what he's doing?

He’s doing things any university or president could do.

The difference is that Mitch is (and was) immensely popular in Indiana. Former governor that righted the state government and balanced the books. Worked in the Reagan and Bush White House. He had the type of popularity among republicans to run for president but he chose not to. He cut his teeth in government by being a true fiscal conservative. So when he stepped in at Purdue he had complete freedom and trust by the Indiana people to do what he needed to and he didn’t have to worry about making unpopular cuts to keep costs low.

They just don’t make them like Mitch Daniels anymore. I don’t think it’s a secret that I lean left/center and I’d vote for Mitch in a heartbeat. For president at Auburn or the US
