For some reason, the Auburn rant way has changed. It is now the mob mentality, use your feels and wants to determine things.

It is catching on

Soon, the word "bully" will get used on this board and it will be complete

Jay Jacobs had a lot more misses than hits and don't forget his good ole boy network.

But Lebo's contract wasn't signed until 2005 when Jacobs was AD and that 7 year deal was drawn up by Jacobs after Lebo's 14-17 (4-12) inaugural season. Brilliant move by JJ.

And David Housel stepped down maybe a week before Lebo was hired in 04 iirc so JJ was probably defacto interim AD at that point anyway.

Jay Jacobs was the Senior Associate Athletic Director in 2004, in fact he had been in the AD office since 1991.

how long are standard hc basketball contracts?

and at thinking the deal wasn't in place when he was named hc in april of 2004... do you think he coached the first season for free?

Clearly, Auburn is prepared to wait, giving Lebo a seven-year deal worth about $750,000 annually with buyout clauses for both sides, according to interim president Ed Richardson.

“Coach Lebo when he came in had a much more comprehensive expectation for our program and what it needed and what he wanted to do,” Richardson said. “With the two programs he turned around, that’s proof there that you can’t deny.

“This is the coach. There’s not a doubt in my mind about it.”

yeah bud... that deal was completely drawn up by jj in 2005

jj named ad in dec

yeah, just outside a week

You think JJ was named AD immediately after Housel stepped down? Is that even what I said? Nope. Housel announced he was stepping down in March 2004

Also, thanks for the super helpful link confirming what I said, that Lebo hadn't signed a contract in 2004. He signed in 2005, after JJ was AD.

Housel may have still been officially the AD at the time this article was posted, but most of his power had been stripped away from him by then in punishment for JetGate (more precisely, he was punished by the PTB for not pulling it off and getting away with it).

JJ was the PTB's choice for replacing Housel - after all, he was already Housel's #2 guy. Not saying he 'picked' Lebo, but it stretches the imagination to think he didn't have a major say in his hiring.

BTW, if this year is up for consideration as AU Athletics' best ever, then 2003-04 should be under consideration for one of the worst.

It was time for Auburn to move on from the JJ and Housel's good ole boy network. JJ did meddle to much. Also JJ looked bad in front of the board with regards to big scoreboards and no long term plan. Not sure the board was happy with the trailer we call a press box.
