He’s been getting CBs to Mississippi State since State lost their own 3* commit to Tennessee.

I think he waits out the AU — Tisdol/Simpson stuff. MSU looks most likely

That’s less than ideal. We’d need a grad transfer at that point for depth and I don’t think our options will be lengthy with zero chance at starting
With Bo starting the nxt 2 years minimum my guess is the only options are a HS QB or a true Frosh or True Soph that will have to sit a year after transferring anyway.

I think it’s highly probable that JG transfers as well.
This may be true but I'm not convinced. Joey stayed at Bartram Trail when he had many opportunities to transfer to other schools to get more QB snaps in high school. I know it's not the same thing but there's enough in that for me to not assume it's a slam dunk or maybe even highly likely he transfers.

Might mean bama will offer Pegues...
Bama still appears to have 2 other TEs higher on the board in Darnell Washington & Theo Johnson.

That would make him loyal to a fault. very admirable He’s skilled enough to accomplish his dreams somewhere else, but his loyalty would keep him on our bench as a package player. We will see.

We are trying to get Florida State commitment 3* CB Derek Bermudez to visit.

He’s a 6’1 180 pound prospect out of Jacksonville, Florida.

#45 CB prospect in the 2020 class.

He claims Georgia, VT, and GT are pursuing him post commitment as well.

High likelihood Gatewood transfers.

Id be willing to bet a bottle of tequila that he transfers out by the end of April next spring. Probably at the end of this year. He is not going to just sit the bench. And he is not going to stay to be involved with 5 plays a game for his career.

He probably sees the guys that are transferring out and what kind of success they are having. Not that he is that caliber but if he ever has ANY thoughts of NFL, he cant stay

He gone and right now, Cord Sandberg would be our back up if Nix got injured. Not good.

If that's the case Joey probably needs to change positions, while he still has the chance, to something he's can be NFL caliber at.

Well, I agree but he is 19 years old and full of confidence. As he should be. And I hate to say it but If I were him, I would do the very same thing. Id want playing time so I could get my chance. He is only going to get one chance at this football thing. Down the road, he is either going to look back and say that he tried or he kit sat back and rode the bench

Agree - that's why I'd hang up being the QB like a great many high schoolers have and find out what I'm best at.

We all got a skill set and now two coaches haven't put his ahead of the competition. If he's got the hands, legs, or speed for something else he definitely has the size, drive and what it takes to be a team player! Not to hate on him... or derail any further

(eta: and we have positions of need).

With the portal it's going to be extremely difficult for anyone to have depth at quarterback. Look at pretty much every good team, nobody would be in good shape at all if the starter went down.

Look at Alabama right now. They are fricked. They will not win with that back up QB they have. And they have been at the top of recruiting for 10 years. Kids that feel that can be good QBs are not going to sit the bench. It just is not going to happen

It just one of the may reasons I prefer a running style offense than a passing one. Look at LSU right now. IF JB gets hurt, they are done. Same with Bama. Neither has a totally dominating run game or defense right now. They are riding with the passing game. You take the QB out of the equation, it really hurts

Joey has already red-shirted, so if he transfers he will sit out another year and have two years to play.

If he stays at Auburn, plays next year and graduates, then he can transfer and have 2 years left as a graduate QB. I think that is the most likely scenario. But, If he is not an early graduate, he would still have 1 year left. Not the slam dunk some of you think it is.

allin,

Now that puts a new wrinkle on it. Hmm. Id love that scenario.

Id also like to see the kid get more snaps when we are up by three touchdowns, unfortunately that has not happened for a year and a half and now Bo definitely needs the reps.

247 interviewed Phillip Webb. Nothing ground breaking there but my impression from him was that Alabama might be running #4. They’re not pushing very hard right now which is interesting.

He definitely wants to be a pass rusher which is why Oklahoma is still in the mix. He likes the idea of playing in a conference where they pass a lot.

My guess is that it’s down to AU and LSU. No timeline on a commitment

Agreed! Too bad we don't have enough quality QBs on roster to put him at Flex TE. He could be one of the best in college football there if thrown to.

Keith said we have other DBs higher on the board FWIW.

Yup and since Joey was an EE the chances are good he will have his undergrad degree shortly after next season. It makes more sense to stay at AU through next season to see if he is needed here due to injury or something then transfer to play immediately instead of transfering after this season & be forced to sit next year.
