The Arthur Blank Foundation makes a significant donation to the Lutzie 43 Foundation.

Mike Lutzenkirchen continues to do good work.

It has been more than four years since Philip Lutzenkirchen, the former populist tight end at Lassiter High and Auburn, died in a single-car accident on a Georgia country road during an early morning of bad decisions.
Four years, three months and 25 days to be exact, that his family has been trying to make sense of the senseless.
As time passes and the sharp edges of that day inevitably wear away, Philip’s father, Mike Lutzenkirchen, has made it a mission to keep the pointed and painful lessons of his 23-year-old son’s death relevant.
So, cut to Monday and the Atlanta headquarters of the Arthur Blank Foundation. Another campaign had begun. This one aimed at combating the dangers of distracted and impaired driving, called 43 Key Seconds. Forty-three was Philip’s number.
quote:
A daughter of Blank’s wife, Angela, had gone to school with Philip. Later meeting his parents, Blank learned more of the story. Immediately, his message to Mike and Mary Lutzenkirchen was: “It’s an incredible story and your passion is incredible and you have a great delivery. You can make a difference.”
Here was another platform for Philip’s father to make his very personal appeal for more safety and sanity behind the wheel.
Mike Lutzenkirchen continues to do good work.

I really feel bad for them. I can't imagine.

Agree. Here's another bitter angle to the story. The hip injury Lutzie suffered as a junior was fatal...had it not been for the injury, he most likely would have left for the NFL. Had he done that and made it, he most likely would not have been at the lake that day and in the subsequent car accident. Funny, or in this case tragic, how life can turn.

That's a ridiculous angle to take.

Not to be a jerk, but by that logic, 100% of births are fatal.

Not to be a jerk, but the point is, had he not been hurt, he, had a good chance of making the NFL. Had it transpired that way, he likely would not have been in the accident. Yeah, it's morbid but true.

So if he had never been injured and had made it to the NFL, he would have been immune to further car accidents, plane crashes, falls in the tub, terminal illnesses, etc. etc?
Interesting theory.

Lutzie's BAC was at 0.377 which is entering fatal territory. He also died in a single vehicle accident, highly intoxicated driver + no seat belt.
This wasn't a "wrong place, wrong time" situation but poor decision making.
