AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn is moving ahead with a renovation and new facility project that will enhance the Tigers’ locker room and recruiting space at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn’s athletics department is seeking approval from the university’s board of trustees to fund the $28 million project, which includes a new 44,000 square foot, multi-story facility complete with recruiting space for football and Olympic sports, a club space for fans and a new press box to relocate the media from the west side of the stadium to the southwest corner, according to documents released to the board this week.

The project will also provide a renovation of the existing home locker room, which measures at 16,000 square feet. The project will be up for approval at he board of trustee’s meeting Feb. 3. If approved, construction could begin in May with completion scheduled for July 2018, according to the Opelika-Auburn News. Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs did not immediately return Auburn Undercover’s request for comment.

I'd be satisfied if they'd just get to banners to enclose the back of the jumbotron. Not sure why it's taken so long.

This could be step one of the overall project. The new recruiting facility is listed as a multi sport use item. Auburn could still move the home locker room to the north end zone with the planned expansion.

1) Surprised it is only 28 mil

2) I hope do something other than the gray paneling that is currently used. I have no objection to it in theory, I thought it'd be alright when first proposed. But ultimately I think it looks weird and just adds another strange exterior design to the existing exterior mess.

with this renovation and what they were talking about a north endzone concourse renovation, I doubt it.

That is where the recruits go in. Where else would it go?

This was the rendering for the North Endzone upgrade released a year or so ago, which stylistically looks like the rendering for the new recruiting portion above. Seems to me that the approved addition is just Phase 1 of several, since it will address locker room and recruiting needs as well as the stadium facade.

ETA: Makes me think that JHS is going to look like a more modern/updated form of Lambeau

The current press box will be converted to either boxes or scholarship seats. (Assumed Scholarship or Beckwith) I actually like this solution better because it fits in better with Tiger walk, the entrance by the players under the student section, etc. Wish it bricked in more of the endzone.

I would hope they would make it symmetrical, on either of the adjacent corners. I understand the other corner of the endzone doesn't have the space for a similarly sized structure, but they could at least brick it up for aesthetics, no?

Well, what if this isn't the only thing they are going to do to the stadium?

I wish they would go with a little darker brick color, but that's just me.

Then great, but we've been waiting for these changes for quite a long time and it seems pretty bizarre to me that we're going to start the buildout on a small portion of an overall exterior renovation while it's still not clear whether the plans for the overall renovation are anywhere close to finalized.

I wouldn't call it bizarre. What if they already have the general idea on what the overall stadium renovation will look like, so they can go ahead and move forward with this one area that is by itself, can be done fairly quickly, and is an immediate impact to recruiting? Makes perfect sense to me.

I agree. I think that brick color is pretty ugly. Looks a few decades too old.

We've sort of been tossed back and forth as fans. A little over a year ago the north end zone was going to upgraded to include a lounge and locker room, same as this corner upgrade on the south. I didn't know they were still debating the design. As if December 2015 it was this:

They are still working towards the project. I know one of the points of contention with the initial plans was moving the locker room, which was why they've backed up some on it.

That design looks basically like the design for the gameday facility, so I believe anything they do to the North Endzone will look like what you've pictured. They are at this point just working on the other details.

Ok.. based on the overhead view. I get the blue area is the renovated and added part. But the blue area that runs the length of the south endzone...

...what will that be? Where does it fit within the endzone seating? It looks like seats would have to come out if the blue area is part of new facility...
