4-star QB target names top schools

quote:

Four-star quarterback Kaidon Salter of Cedar Hill (Texas) was the last known unofficial visitor to Auburn before the nationwide coronavirus scare led to the suspension of on-campus visits. After that trip, he spoke highly of the Tigers.

Now, almost four weeks later the touted prospect and major Auburn target has named his list of schools.

Auburn, Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, UCLA and Utah.

According to Salter, his top 11 "has no order." He added that "my recruitment remains open."

The 6-feet-1, 185-pound Salter is the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback nationally in the industry generated 247Sports Composite and No. 244 overall recruit. He's the No. 89 overall prospect in the 247Sports rankings.
Last season, Salter completed 149 of 245 passes for 2,550 yards, 28 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He added 616 rushing yards.

After getting his first in-person look at Auburn in March, Salter saw enough to know one thing; He’ll be back

“They’re a big factor,” Salter said at the time.

Although it was spring break at Auburn during Salter's visit, Tigers coach Gus Malzahn and offensive line coach Jack Bicknell were on campus and spent extensive time with Salter during his four-hour stop.

“(Malzahn) was great,” Salter said. “I loved his personality and I loved the atmosphere at Auburn. I loved it without the people even being there. Everything was great.”

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Chad Morris could not be in Auburn for the visit, but that wasn’t an issue, Salter said.

“Right now, he’s in Dallas, but we Face Timed him and we talked to him,” Salter said.

Auburn’s message to the 6-feet-1, 185-pound Salter?

“Basically, I fit their place,” Salter said. “I know I fit their place. They’re saying I can come in — they have Bo Nix and he’s a great player. But most likely, he’ll leave after his third year. They say I can come in and play a role and then eventually get that spot. (Malzahn) said he thinks I’ve got what it takes to beat Alabama.”

As for a return trip to Auburn?

“Most definitely,” Salter said at the time. “I’m going to take an official there.

Here is Salter's most recent 247Sports evaluation:

"Lean, athletic build with adequate height. Will need to fill out upper body but athletic lower-body build. Natural playmaker with instincts and feel. Good downfield arm strength with above average short-to-intermediate velocity. Great improvisational skills. Dangerous in the scramble drill. Very mobile and throws well on the move. Pass-first QB but definitely athletic enough to hurt defenses with his legs.

Encouraging athletic profile. Track and field athlete who competes in 300 hurdles, high jump, long jump, and triple jump. Will need to continue adding bulk to strengthen overall build. That will also maximize arm strength, particularly vertically. Can tighten delivery and get a bit quicker with release. One of the top QB's in Texas for his class. High-major prospect with long-term NFL Draft potential."

Ok, I give up. Someone show me where Auburn is in that list in that article? He names his top schools and talks about Auburn, but it's not in his list.

So Gatewood transfers to Kentucky, Vandagriff (with ties to Auburn) commits to Ga and we are out once again chasing munchkins because they are labeled "dual threat".

And Vandagriff rushed for over a grand his sophomore year before they told him to just sit back and sling it this past year.

Cant blame him, take one look at that future all pro line of Ga vs our misfit bunch of JC transfers and converted DL along with a smattering of 3 stars, Im sure the kid likes his knees too much to come to Auburn. But dont worry we have our eyes set on some game changing tackles for 2021, wait sorry thats Ga again.

We recruit so well at so many positions, the offensive line is just aggravating, and it no doubt hurts our recruitment of QBs to boot.

Hope springs eternal, maybe the JC guys do well, and some others step up.

Tigers make the cut with 4-star DT

quote:

Auburn just offered Katron Evans a week ago, but the Tigers have apparently impressed him a little bit from the jump.

Evans, a 4-star defensive tackle recruit from Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy, released a top eight via Twitter on Sunday and Auburn made the cut. Alabama, Arizona State, Florida, Georgia, Southern California, Texas Christian and Tennessee round out his list of leaders.

Evans, who is listed at 6-feet-4, 320 pounds, is the No. 10 defensive tackle and No. 181 overall recruit nationally in the industry generated 247Sports Composite. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 17 defensive tackle.

Auburn already has one defensive tackle committed; that's 4-star prospect Lee Hunter of Eight Mile (Ala.) Blount.

Hunter pledged to the Tigers last December, just a few days after Auburn beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium. We expect the Tigers to try to sign one or two more tackles in the 2021 class.

All told, there are known offer by Auburn to 15 tackles in the class.
What kind of prospect is Evans?

quote:

247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn said this about him:

"Thick, strong build. Can play at 300 pounds. Explosive and physical. Gets off at snap well. Uses power to overwhelm blockers. Can handle double teams and be disruptive. Strong at point of attack. Quick hands and disengages well. Re-directs down line of scrimmage well against run. Bends at the waist and needs to bend more at knees and keep flat back. Improved pad level at point of attack a must. Needs to improve lateral movement. Adding flexibility is important. Multi-year starter at Top 20 program."

At this time, there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball projections in for Evans.
These are the other tackles that claim Auburn offers:

J.T. Tuimoloau, Sammarish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic: No 2 recruit in the country.

Maason Smith, Houma (La.) Terrebonne: Five-star prospect at the No. 1 recruit in the state of Louisiana.

Damon Payne, Belleville (Mich.): No. 27 overall prospect in the country for the 247Sports Composite.

Payton Page, Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley: Four-star currently projected to Clemson.

Leonard Taylor, Miami (Fla.) Palmetto: A 4-star recruit who visited the Tigers earlier this year and could return for an official.

George Rooks, Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peters Prep: The No. 14 defensive tackle recruit in the country.

Tim Keenan, Birmingham (Ala.) Ramsay: Ranked as the No. 8 prospect in the state of Alabama for 2021.

Marquis Robinson, Milton (Fla.): A 4-star recruit who has visited Auburn multiple times. Could be an Auburn-Florida State battle.

Marlin Dean, Elberton (Ga.) Elbert County: Three-star prospect committed to Georgia in March.

Anquin Barnes, Montgomery (Ala.) Robert E. Lee: Three-star recruit who Auburn offered last summer.

Isaac Washington, Pilot Mountain (N.C.) East Surry: Tennessee commit.

Boaz Saint-Vil, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas: Three-star recruit at Florida state power.

Dominic Bass, Chicago (Ill.) Phillips Academy.

Dylan Fairchild is soon to receive another ratings bump on 247. I think we were in the drivers seat for him at one point.

quote:

Dylan Fairchild, IOL, Georgia
Without much to go off of but highlight film in our February update, Fairchild flashed with his body movement, precision and toughness. In the ensuing weeks, we’ve uncovered the type of information that has taken Fairchild from exciting discovery to elite sure thing.

We’ve verified his size, we’ve learned that he’s an elite wrestler with a 47-0 career record in the heavyweight division and the college feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve ranked him as an interior offensive lineman but he’s got a lot of the prerequisites for staying at offensive tackle. Expect this recruitment to really heat up in the coming weeks from all of the SEC powers. The Cumming (Ga.) West Forsyth standout sits at No. 188 in the Top247.

Auburn makes the cut with 4-star LB

quote:

Auburn only expects to sign a couple linebackers in the 2021 class and because of that the Tigers have offered only 19 of them that we know of. One of them released his top 10 Monday and included the Tigers on his list.

That player is Baltimore (MD) St. Frances Academy four-star linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson.

These are the teams that made the cut for the talented defender: Auburn, Ole Miss, Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, Maryland, Georgia, Penn State, Arizona State, and Texas A&M. Dumas-Johnson, who is listed at 6-feet-2, 220 pounds, is the No. 213 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class and the No. 18 outside linebacker according to the industry generated 247Sports Composite. 247Sports has him as the No. 218 recruit in the country.

247Sports believes Dumas-Johnson projects outside in college.

Auburn made Dumas-Johnson's cut despite the fact he never has visited the Tigers. And, worth noting is this: Auburn only offered him March 27.

According to our sources, the Tigers hope to get Dumas-Johnson on campus once visits re-start after the coronavirus scare passes.

Here is the 247Sports player evaluation on Dumas-Johnson, courtesy of national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn: "Ideal outside linebacker size to play in space and be effective against run in college. Excellent athlete. Possesses suddenness. Changes direction well. Reads plays well and reacts quickly. Strong instincts. Can chase the edge. Physical in the run game. Sure tackler. Plays with balance and has plus body control. Rarely overruns play. Shifts through traffic well in run game. Comfortable in coverage. Can open hips and run in pass defense. Has to continue to increase upper body strength. Working on stacking and shedding needed. Multi-year starter at Top 10 program. Day 3 NFL draft potential."

There have been no predictions logged on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for the four-star linebacker at this time. Linebackers coach Travis Williams is his primary Auburn recruiter.

Based on current intel, 4-star Barrett Carter of Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett may be Auburn's top priority at linebacker right now. Here is his 247Sports eval: "Shorter linebacker but has a relatively filled out frame with long arms. Could potentially top out around 240 pounds once in a college strength program. Has shown his speed by posting 40 times in the 4.5 range at college camps. Plays at one of the better high school programs in metro Atlanta and in Georgia's highest classification. Primarily plays on the outside at this point and sees success as a pass rusher off the edge and in chasing plays down in pursuit. His speed transfers over to the field, as he closes quickly and shows the ability to make some athletic plays in space. Shows good play strength and has some striking power. Is better as a blitzer and space player than as an inside, instinctual run defender at this point. Solid, not elite production as a junior, particularly from a one-way player. Projects as a multi-year starter at the Power Five level with the potential to develop into an NFL Draft pick."

3* CB Kameron Grays has been CBd to FSU by a FSU insider. The FSU insider said he thinks his relationship with Marcus Woodson wins out. Grays’ commitment to Auburn at one point was considered imminent. He’s from Blount just like his teammate Lee Hunter.

I posted recently that KN said he hasn’t heard anything about Nixon in a very long time. His QB is McLaughlin so we might’ve killed the Nixon recruitment when we split with the QB.

I could have sworn he said a couple weeks ago as of now both parties had moved on from each other. Apparently Chad & Gus only want maybe 1 big WR in the class.
